Devon Allman et al does not disappoint here in his sophomore release, Space Age Blues. Kind of a strange title, but there's nothing really "outer space"-ish on here--lol. Just good ol' blues rock with an R&B tinge here and there, with sax featured sporadically on several tracks along with Devon's meat 'n' potatoes guitar. His guitar playing isn't too flashy, and quite obviously doesn't bother attempting to emulate his legendary uncle Duane by playing any slide (though he seems to love the wah-wah pedal, which is cool). Rather, he seems to concentrate more on his songwriting and vocals, though he does let loose on some short guitar solos here and there. Definitely no "guitar jams" on here with extended soloing. Kind of a bummer for me, but that's alright, Allman obviously wants to stand out and away from the "jam band" genre just to be different, I suppose. There are a couple of tracks that are kind of weak...the instrumental "Blue Este Le Vide" and a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke". The former starts out promising enough as an instrumental featuring Allman on acoustic, but it's just too dang short at only 1:54...and there really isn't too much substance to it in that short time-span, either. Should have been longer, for sure. On "Sir Duke", Allman turns in a fine vocal performance, but I just think that particular tune, while a great song in itself, just doesn't fit on this album--not quite "ballsy" enough for my tastes and compared to the heavier, bluesier tracks that make up the lion's share of the material here. A few tunes on this album, including the title track, are OUTSTANDING pieces of work...then there are a few pretty good tunes, and then the two weak spots I mentioned above. Overall, though, a success, and highly recommended for blues-rock fans!

A strange title as the songs are not 'Space Age' but a stunning collection of blues songs. A must for Blues fans. Sounds a bit like Robert Cray and plenty of energy in the songs. I really like this album. The Cover version of Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" is probably the weakest track on the Album. The opening track is a driving force and good enough to keep you listening for more throughout.

I bought the first Honeytribe CD and thought it was great so I bought the second one. It too is a great CD. Excellent musicianship and production. Well I had the pleasure of seeing Honeytribe in concert this past weekend and all I can say is these 2 CD's do not do the band justice. They were so heavy and intense I couldn't believe it. From the opening song right through to the encore they were smokin' hot and just blew the audience away. Buy the CD's because they are good and you will love them but you have to see Honeytribe live to really appreciate the music. Devon Allman is a very creative and talented blues rock guitarist and he has a very powerful voice. The rhythm section was one of the tightest and innovative I have ever seen and were incredible to watch. I can't stress it enough........go see HONEYTRIBE in concert!

Very good. I was tickled pink when I heard their cover of "Sir Duke". These guys are really good musicians and their music is really 'tight'. The string bending and wah pedal work of the lead guitarist is pretty much worth the price of the CD alone.
