Kurupt's third solo effort: Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey has something for just about every hip-hop fan. It has some mainstream pop-rap: "It's Over," The album also has G-Funk: 1)"Can't Go Wrong," (DJ Quik heats up the production! Nice funky beat with a jazzy hook.) 2)The title cut, which you can lowride to! and 3) "Sunshine" with an old-school beat. and finally 4) "At It Again" with use of a talk box and a fast party beat! The album also caters to the hard-core fan: 1) "The Hardest" 2)"On Da Grind." The album has appeal to even rock fans: 1)"Lay it on Back" w/ Fred Durst (does have a hip-hop beat, though). The album also has a few songs with an underground feel like "On, Onsite" w/ Lil 1/2 Dead. The different styles and Kurupt's unique personality make this album a neat addition to your rap collection. This album is not so much set trippin' and gang banging as in Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha (though that one is tight too!) This is his main party album, something to relax to and party to!

Kurupt continues to come with amazing albums. Space Boogie has Kurupt actually crossing-over, and he does a great job. He combines his usual gangsta sound with amazing beats and a bit of commercial appeal. But don't get this twisted: Kurupt sticks to what he's strong with. He raps better with every album, and keeps coming off impressively. He's the only person who could work with Everlast or Limp Bizkit and still make a great album! Who else could do that? Kurupt also works with his long-time friend and partner in DPG, Daz Dillinger. Production done by Fred Wreck, DJ Quik, Daz himself, DJ Lethal, and Jon B., plus many others. And Kurupt has Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg, DJ Quik, Soopafly, Daz, MC Ren, Xzibit, Jon B., Everlast, and others guesting with him on Space Boogie. The album starts out with a spacy introduction. But then follows into "Space Boogie", a track with a bouncy little beat. Kurupt rips this to shreds, some of the sound effects almost even sound like "Dogg Pound Gangstas" from Dogg Food. Then Nate Dogg sings a great outro to make this a quality song. "Don't Hate On Me", sounds like a Death Row diss. The track features Soopafly and Damani, and they rip into them with witty diss lines. The beat is real bouncy, and Kurupt names the people Death Row seem to be hating on, like Tray D, Goldie Loc, Snoop, Soopafly and Nate. "On The Grind" features Daz Dillinger, this song was also on Daz's R.A.W., but it is still a classic track. It was one of my favorite songs on Daz's album. A nice, laid-back gangsta track. "It's Over" features Blaque, and is the first single. It sounds a bit radio-friendly but it's a nice track, Kurupt raps quite nicely on here. The beat is kind of happy-sounding. "Can't Go Wrong" is my favorite song on the album, it's featuring DJ Quik and Butch Cassidy. This song has a great beat, and Kurupt totally rips it. An instant classic. Quik also gets his rap on here and does so nicely. The song is laced by trumpets and saxophones. "It's On, On Sight" is a good bumpin' track with Kurupt coming off well. The beat has guitars and a deep bassline. "Sunshine" features Jon B., and is a nice summertime type of song. Jon B. even sings a verse, but Kurupt raps two verses and holds his own on this song. "The Hardest" is a posse cut with MC Ren, Xzibit and Nate Dogg. The beat is rough and rugged. Everyone gets a piece on this song, most definitely a hardcore track. "Gangstas" features Daz over this beautiful, indescribable beat. Kurupt and Daz give this song a more lazy, breezy feel. "Bring Back The Gangstas" features Snoop Dogg and Goldie Loc over a beat that sounds like a mix of "Stacy Adams" and "B-Please". Snoop really rips on this song, Kurupt also comes off nice, Goldie Loc is all right, but his presence isn't really felt. "Lay On Back" is a good track with Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit and Nate Dogg. The only problem with this song is Durst. His verse is pretty bad. Luckily Kurupt and Nate rip the track to shreds, and DJ Lethal came with a nice beat, to make this a good song. "We Just Don't Give A ...." is produced by DJ Lethal and he brings a nice guitar-laced beat. Kurupt literally assaults this song. He raps with the most proficiency I've heard from him in a long time. "At It Again" is a nice party track, with a sample from a song by GUY. It sounds a little bit like the music on Live From L.A., it's got that great California soul sound to it. Kurupt comes off well too. "Kuruption" features Everlast on a guitar-laced song. Fred Wreck and Soopafly help with production. Everlast sounds all right singing. Kurupt rips it up again. This is a political type of track. "The World" is a Dogg Pound track, a funky organ beat by Daz Dillinger and Kurupt coming off his usual classic style. There are violins here too. Great song. The bonus song is "The Life I Live" (on my album) and is a slow song with Kurupt rapping solo. It's very soulful and Kurupt talks about his life. This is definitely one of the best albums this year. Right up there with the D.P.G. album: Dillinger & Young Gotti. You should try that one too. If you're into Kurupt, you should get this. He satisfies both genres: the G-Funk audience and the pop audience. This is a great album.

Kurupts skills on the mic are nicely above average, the guests spots are terrific but it's the BEATS on this one that make it way, way up there above the clouds. Namely, that guitar sound - check out the steely guitar sound - only the west coast can use guitars like this- check out "on, on sight" and "the hardest". Best tracks I've heard for a long, long time.

This is by FAR Kurupt's best piece of work to date. I did enjoy 'Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha' but by the end, I was tired of all the gangsta crap. Kurupt is nice, though, and his flow is ALWAYS hot. The colaborations on this album are also interesting and add to the flow of this album, even though upon first glance you may think "anything with Fred Durst in it is gonna suck" (which is USUSALLY true). My favorite piece on here is "Gangsta's." The production on this album is also fantastic. The use of pianos, horns, etc in the backround really sets off Kurupts lyrics. I highly recommend you either purchase or download this album. Its hot.

If youre (like me) an old school DPG/213 fan and you wanna hear more you shouldnt buy this cd! basically what I think about this album is that kurupt is finally going for what is rightfully his and that is fame and money!! for years kurupt has been doing his thing but unfortunately for him he has only been respected as a homie of snoop dogg and as a DPG member. Now it is time for kurupt to get in before the game is shut down and he does that with beats that sound too commercial, too happy, too R&B and are,to me , a total denial of his Dogg Pound days. Dont get me wrong i WANT kurupt to become rich cuz hes been spoiling my ears with fat lyrics for ages but he should have warned his true fans for this album which might be nice for my kid brother(hes 12)!!I think its also very cool that kurupts homies be banging it here too and the 'Godfathers of gangstarap' Ice cube and mc ren are on this album too so out of respect to the old dayz i still give this album 3 stars. DPG fans out there be aware for this cd cuz its really nice to give as a present to young children!! PEACE, im outa here and "its over now"!!

This is one of the tightest cds of the summer. The beats are off the hook, but kurupt doesn't really deliver as well as I think he can on the mic. Although this isnt bad for a west coast album its one of the best west coast albums for this year, but if your about lyrics dont bother with this. If your about having a good time and want something to bounce to then pick it up.

Early album of the year candidate,

The new Kurupt CD is really great. Don't let the bubble gum single "It's Over Now" fool you..Kurupt is still bringing the heat. The CD has a lot of guest appearances including Snoop Dogg, Daz, Fred Durst, Nate Dogg, his wifey from Blaque, and even Everlast (I wonder what Eminem thinks..). Although some of the collaborations might seem wack it all comes together on the CD. Plus the production on this CD is especially tight. Fred Wreck is the next big producer in hip hop. On Onsite is one of the hottest beats of the year. This CD bangs from beginning to end so it is strongly recommended.

"Tha Streets Iz A Mutha" It Isn't, but It's Still A Dope LP (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars),

Kurupt is part of the reason why I enjoy west coast rap music. After an excellent sophomore album Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha back in '99, he comes again two years later with Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey. This album still has that west coast sound, which is what I like to hear from Kurupt. What had me skeptical was the questionable lead single "It's Over Now" with Natina Reed (who really should have stuck to singing because she cannot rap), because it was so pop frendly. But other songs on here redeem that song from making the album a loss. One of the great songs here is "Can't Go Wrong" with DJ Quik and Butch Cassady. Another dope song is the song, "The Hardest Muthaf*****" featuring Xzibit, MC Ren (who rips a nice verse), and Nate Dogg which I really like. And whats a Kurupt album without Daz making an appearance (they're paired together like Redman and Method Man.)? Daz lays down some vocals on "Gangsta's" and "F Da World" two standout songs. Although this album is dope, it isn't Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha. A lot of these songs here are hit and miss as well. As I mentioned before "It's Over Now" was unappealing. Infact, the beginning of the album starts off real slow and pickes up when you hit the sixth track. Also some of the songs send the album into a different direction like the R&B sounding song "Sunshine" with Jon B, and the political type song "Kuruption" with Everlast's singing. They're not bad tracks, but if you're used to hearing Kurupt, you will be a little thrown off. But overall Kurupt's third album is worth your time. You still get those tracks that made you love Kurupt and Tha Dogg Pound to begin with. And I really cannot complain, because I had to let this album grow on me. To be honest, it was actually better than I thought. I slept on this album back in '01, and found this album in the used CD bin at the store, and decided to give it a listen. If you're a fan of Kurupt or Tha Dogg Pound in general, I recommend this album to you. Peace. Lyrics: B+ Production: B Guest Appearances: B+ Musical Vibes: B Top 5 Favorite Tracks: 1. The Hardest Muthaf***** (featuring Xzibit, MC Ren, and Nate Dogg) 2. F Tha World (featuring Daz) 3. Can't Go Wrong (featuring DJ Quik and Butch Cassidy) 4. Kuruption (featuring Everlast) 5. Gangsta's (featuring Daz and Mike Dean) Honorable Mention Tracks: 1. At It Again 2. Sunshine (featuring Jon B)

I think that kurupt was fine when he kept his music gangsta. It's Over is a really bad song! it soundz like it was made just to sell and make money, the rest of the album is really good, On Onsite has a really good beat and kurupt raps over it very nicely, bye this album just for that track, i did and found that the rest of the album was basically just as good.
