Maggie & Betty on Vol. 23,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Space Derby Kit - Cub Scout (DVD)
Both shows are from the Fall of 1975...
Show #1 has the marvelous actress Maggie Smith as guest (currently known for the Harry Potter films). Included: A "special effects" sketch has the wife (Carol) of a consumer protection inspector (Harvey) trying to hide the imperfections of their newly remodeled kitchen while it falls apart all around them; Maggie gives Carol musical instruction on how to do a Cockney accent; the "oldest man" (Tim) plays a doctor making a house call to a sick patient, and does more harm than good (but leaves Harvey in stitches); a "family" sketch has the concerned teacher (Maggie) of son Bubba discovering the root of the boy's problems after meeting with Eunice, Ed & Mama (Carol, Harvey, Vicki); and a "showbiz" musical-comedy finale saluting the workers behind the scenes. Show #2 has the wonderful comedic actress Betty White as guest. Included: German car manufacturers get raked over the coals for poor sales by their Nazi-like heads (Harvey, Tim); the song "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" gets the comic treatment as a wife (Carol) tries to leave her husband (Harvey), but is thwarted by obstacles; a couple's (Carol, Tim) happy Mexico vacation is turned upside-down by a "weird bug"; the Ernest Flatt dancers perform a variety of disco dances; it's Mama's birthday, and the celebration quickly goes sour with the help of Eunice's snobby, self-centered sister Ellen (Betty in her first "family" appearance); and a musical finale which uses a real high school marching band onstage. Two great shows...and I laughed all the way through them! |
