3.0 out of 5 stars For hardcore fans only
A dry read filled with background information and anecdotal commentary on space programs around the world. Somewhat arbitrarily light on detail in places and detailed in others.

Its a fairly good backgrounder and reference if you don't have much else and are not comfortable using Google. I wholeheartedly agree with Dr. Harris's sentiments but I don't think this...

This review is from: Space Enterprise: Living and Working Offworld in the 21st Century (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration) (Paperback)
From both scientific and historic perspectives, the evolution of humankind into a spacefaring civilization is inevitable. In Space Enterprise, Dr. Harris reflects upon his 60+ years of space research to explore the significance and opportunities of the emergence of humankind as a multi-world species. He emphasizes that we now have the opportunity to make advance plans for the emergence of our "space culture" - a culture that will be able to tap into the unlimited resources of space for the benefit of all humankind. I highly recommend Space Enterprise; it is thoroughly researched and provides a stimulating insight into the future course of humankind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should we really be spending money on space?, November 22, 2008
This review is from: Space Enterprise: Living and Working Offworld in the 21st Century (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration) (Paperback)
With the U.S. economy in turmoil, does it make sense to invest more mega-bucks in space? Obviously, a lot of us wonder about that -- but this book presents deep-space exploration and living off-world as plausible, necessary, and vital to our national interests. If you're ready to be convinced, or just want to check-out what's actually going on in the space industry, spend some time with this worthwhile book. The fantasies you may have suspected are being replaced in real time by hard science and serious investment from the private sector. A good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Living Offworld in Today's World, November 10, 2008
This review is from: Space Enterprise: Living and Working Offworld in the 21st Century (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration) (Paperback)
Space Enterprise is an amazingly interesting book dealing with how spacefaring continues to move forward in this age of advanced technology. Dr. Harris has combined engaging narrative with compelling historical facts to show just how close we really are to living and working offworld in this century. I recommend this book highly!
