4.0 out of 5 stars Another album worthy of praise
While not quite on par with some of the other donations by the Reverend, Space Heater has proven itself to me as a worthy purchase. Being a RHH fan I do harbor a little favoritism though.

Some have complained that the sound keeps changing, but I can still hear a lot of the Reverend's roots in this stuff. Besides, I tend to like it when a band can bend their sound around...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not the best...
I like this record, but it's not what you might expect from the boys... a little too processed. I prefer the thrashier psychobilly from RHH disks like "Smoke 'em if you got 'em", which definitely sounds more "live".

Besides, I tend to like it when a band can bend their sound around without betraying the core sound. I expect a harder edge from these guys and I feel that most of the tracks without it should be considered the departure from the norm. They are psychobilly after all. Even many of their slower, mellow tracks are done quite well, so I can't complain much at all.

Some of my best picks of Space Heater would have to be the humorous Couch Surfin', the instrumentals of Pride of San Jacinto and The Prophet Stomp, and the harder edge tracks such as Lie Detector, Jimbo Song, Goin' Manic and Cinco De Mayo. I won't waste any more of your time with details. Just suffice to say the whole disc is 'listenable' (especially for RHH fans) and that is hard to come by in many CDs today.

If you are a fan of Reverend this selection should not disappoint. While it may not be their best work, I have heard worse from bands with more commercial success. If this be your first sermon from The Reverend, you should have a taste for music with a little hard edge and some Tex-Mex-Rock&Roll dashed in to taste.

I've been a Reverend fan for five years now and all I can say is that his music has saved me from a life of boredom and routine. Thank God he is one of the few people around who still likes to play real rock and roll.Fast-Furious-Fun! Buy any of his sermons and get saved today!

I really like the sound of this record. It breaks a bit of a mold for the Rev. and his band. "Lie Detector" should be cranked up as loud as possible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not their best, but better than Martinin Time..., July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Space Heater (Audio CD)
First off, let me say that nothing will ever top Liquor in the Front. On their fifth album, The Reverend puts a good foot foward, realeasing an album somewhere between It's Martini Time and Liquor in the Front, both in song quality and style. Anything close to Liquor inthe Front is good as far as I'm concerned, and if I sound like I'm biased toward that album, well, I am. They produce some really rocking numbers on this new disc along with some loungier, swingier songs. Unfortunately, there are some songs that just kind of plod along, really going nowhere at all, such as "Goin Manic" and "Cinco de Mayo". The songs that rock, really rawk. Standouts include: "Pride of San Jacinto", "Jimbo Song", "Starlight Lounge", "For Never More", and "The Prophet Stomp". This is a good CD. If you are a fan, definitely go out and get it. If you've never heard the Reverend, you should check this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slap that bass!, August 5, 1998

Well, the good Reverend just keeps getting better. Outstanding album - I listen to it once a day (sometimes twice). The only song on it that I don't really like is 'Revolution Under Foot', but that may be just me. Everything else on it is straight-ahead good rockin'! It's one of those records that just makes you happy when you listen to it. I saw RHH twice this year, and this album captures some of the manic energy that they put out on stage. Favorite tracks are the Jimbo Song, Starlight Lounge, and For Never More (which has a slight (old) Iron Maiden-esque feel to it). Turn off your computer, pick up a copy of this album, mix yourself a cocktail, and enjoy!

This cd has an awesome groove to it. The guitar and bass is still solid. This release is more sarcastic and still, but it rocks hard too. "Lie Detector" is one of my favs from the Rev'. Buy this cd if you like Horton Heat but dont own it. Just buy it on a whim b/c this cd is killer.

To put it simple the Rev has his stuff together, if you can catch him live do it. Baby I'm Drunk and Texas Rock-a-billy Rebel make me want to cry. Screw all those techno, pretty boy Cd's get this and play it at your next get together. The Rev is preachin' to all of us that need some REAL ROCK in our hearts. Buy it and praise the Lord!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Rev Rocks!, June 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Space Heater (Audio CD)
Okay, I've only just got into the Rev after someone told me to check them out. Not a big rockabilly fan, neither country. But after reading some reviews got Liquor and Holy Roller. I actually like the mish mash of rockabilly, rock and punk influence. This album is more rock - which some people don't like. Me I think it's a bit like The Living End in spot (and you can see where they were influenced), but still has that jazz/country/rockabilly in it. Not as tongue in cheek and other albums but I like it!

1.0 out of 5 stars though the last 2 songs rule!!, February 10, 2011
This review is from: Space Heater (Audio CD)
First off, I love the last two songs 'Baby, I'm Drunk,' and 'Space Heater' but the rest of the songs really suck. This is the only Reverend Horton Heat album I recommend NOT buying. Despite this I'm still a RevHH fan of alot of their other music -especially songs like 'Big Sky' and 'Baddest of the Bad' from an album they did in 1994.
