Editorial Reviews

2010 two CD collection. Across this double disc set, expertly compiled by Jerry Ewing (Editor of Classic Rock Presents Prog), Space Hymns takes you on a journey through all things Prog with the likes of Rush, Camel, Barclay James Harvest, The Moody Blues and Rick Wakeman. Taking in such revered labels as Decca, Deram, Vertigo, Phonogram, Mercury, Fontana, Polydor and Sanctuary and also delving deeper, savouring the work of the more underground Aphrodite's Child, Faust, Khan, Jade Warrior and the magnificent Magna Carta. Universal.

4.0 out of 5 stars No Yes? July 26, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Wakeman, but not Yes. With an album cover derived from the Yes LP - Time And A Word (1970), you'd think this set would contain at least ONE song from perhaps the most successful progressive rock band in history.

Fire - Arthur Brown
Question - Moody Blues
Notting Hill Gate - Quintessence
Tomorrow Night - Atomic Rooster
Life Child - Ramases
Stranded - Khan
So Far - Faust
Waterloo Lily - Caravan
Blowin Free - Wishbone Ash
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
Karn Evil 9 1st Impression Part 2 - ELP
Hymn - Barclay James Harvest
Gone Hollywood - Supertramp
The Voice - Moody Blues
Time Stands Still - Rush

America (not the Simon and Garfunkel version covered by Yes) - The Nice
Seven is a Jolly Good Time - The Egg
Come Away Melinda - Uriah Heep
Pantagruel's Nativity - Gentle Giant
Golf Girl - Caravan
A Winter's' Tale - Jade Warrior
The Four Horsemen - Aphroodite's Child
Lord of the Ages - Magna Carta
Catherine of Aragon - Rick Wakeman
Dreamer - Supertramp
Child of the Universe - Barclay James Harvest
By-Tor and the Snow Dog - Rush
Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield
Cloak and Dagger Man - Camel
Inertiatic ESP - The Mars Volta

No Tull, No Yes. If I had to assemble a collection of "Space Hymns" to introduce the world of Progressive Rock, I might include some of the listed tracks, but there are many better Supertramp tracks from their first albums that would better fit the genre. The story's the same with many of these artists. I guess the company assembled what they had access to. Either that, or they don't understand Prog Rock the way I do.
