Editorial Reviews

Like a shooting star headed toward earth from another solar system, Ace Frehley operates in his own musical galaxy. He s a musical maverick, an improbable bestselling New York Times author in 2011, and iconoclast adored by millions of fans around the world since 1974. Through his seminal work with KISS and as a solo artist, Ace Frehley is championed as one of the most influential guitar players of the last four decades and his impact on popular music is immeasurable. With his smash 1978 solo album and post-KISS work including 2009 s Anomaly, Frehley
continues to be the best selling member of the original line up, or any other.

His new solo album, Space Invader, promises to forge yet another exciting chapter in the life of one of rock's most influential and distinctive artists.

Frehley offers:
Fans can expect something closer to my 78 solo record.
Over the past couple of months I ve been listening to my old records and trying to find that formula that I ve captured so many times in the past. I recently played some of my new music for a few people at my label and they were blown away. It reaffirmed in my mind that I m on the right path and I think my fans are going to love the results. It s gonna be a great record.

Signature songs expected to be included are:
A cover of The Joker by Steve Miller as well as strong batch of all new material, written or co-written by Frehley including: Inside The Vortex; Change; Gimme a Feelin ; Immortal Pleasures and I Wanna Hold You.

I have always enjoyed Ace Frehley, but his solo career has always been a bit shaky for me. In my personal collection, there have always been two Ace albums that really shone for me.. and they were; the 78 solo album and the very first Frehley's Comet. Today I am happy to induct Space Invader into the company of those top albums... in fact, Space invader now takes the # 2 slot!! This album is melodic, just plain fun rock and roll. The album is very kissy and I agree with the review on the front of the album cover that says Ace out kissed kiss on this one!

The guitars are crisp and in your face on this record, and it makes the listener sadly realize what has been missing on many a-kiss albums since Ace has been absent. Paul Stanley was right, anyone can put on the makeup and play the part of the Space man... but that person will never be Ace Frehley as the Space man!!! There have been those who said that Ace wasted his talent and that he stopped growing as a musician after a certain period of time. Space Invader makes those critics eat their words because not only does Ace expand a bit on his sound here, but he also throws in a few chops that have been played by other Kiss guitarists that were supposed to have out played him. The true Space man shows that he is still a force with to be reckoned with and that he can not only run with the big boys... he is the big boys!

Space Invader is not only the best Ace Frehley album in years... it is the best KISS album in decades!!!! The album will not disappoint...

Sometimes you just want to reach for something familiar.

This is that kind of album. As a lifelong fan of KISS and somebody fortunate enough to see them in their glory days, I was always a Frehley fan. I traded all my doubles from my KISS trading card collection to get enough Ace Frehley cards to cover my Pee-chee in school.

This album is exactly what I want from Ace. Straight forward rock, lyrics that you don't have to listen too hard to because there is no deep, celestial meaning. It is just good old Rock-and-roll.

This is a great album in the pure tradition of Ace. The guitar work is really "killer" on this effort. Ace has always provided us with some "real" lead guitars from the guts and this album is a great testimony to his signature sound and playing style. "Space Invader" is a great successor to "Anomaly". Most people relate to his first solo album while in Kiss as his best record. Personally, I have always loved his album "Trouble Walking" from 1989 as my favorite. "Space invader" is my new favorite now. There is not a single weak track on this effort. There are lots of changes in tempo through the songs with some AWESOME lead guitars that only ACE can create! Ace singing is very good all the way through. This album is a master piece and if you like great Hard Rock music, go get it! I am a musician myself and if Ace were in my band, I would have fought h#ll to keep him on board! He is ROCK and ROLL !!!!

If the above phrase, first yelped out by Paul Stanley back in the early 70's, is what Ace Frehley means to you, than you need to get your hands on this album. Ace is back! For most artists, the songs are the vehicle and the guitar riffs. licks and solos come along for the ride.
For me, anyway, Ace's music is just the opposite. Ace's guitar is in the driver seat and the rest of the song comes along for the ride. "Space Invader" leads off with 2 killer guitar tracks and rarely lets up on the gas. The songs are all above average with great hooks and melodies reminiscent of Ace's work with Kiss and his first solo album. Ace's vocals? Ace is Ace and I personally like his vocal work, especially the way he pronounces certain words ("Maurice" in the song "The Joker" comes to mine) with his New York monotone.
Lastly the overall sound of the album is interesting. The mix seems a bit muddy and at first it put me back; but after several listens it began to grow on me......kinda like a digital version of "Hotter Than Hell" with Ace's guitar layered and upfront in the mix.
Oh...and after several listens, try to the song "Gimme A Feelin'" out of your head. The song has been stuck in mine for the last 48 hours. It's been awhile since I've been able to say that for any Kiss related music.
All in all Ace's best "post-Kiss" solo work, just a few notches below his 70's classic.

I'm a living fossil of 53, a KISS fan since their beginning days, and probably belong in The Museum of Natural History. That said, I can appreciate great, quality rock across many sub-genres. Ace Frehley is a rock guitar legend, and it was mega bands with 'staying power' like Kiss, Zeppelin, Rush, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Sabbath (Ozzy) etc. that rocked the worldwide masses, and inspired many teens to pick up an instrument and play. I won't delve into the politics of 'KISStory', but later on KISS without Ace was never complete. I say this with due respect in regards to Vinnie Vincent, Bruce Kulick, and Tommy Thayer who are excellent guitarists in their own right. I loved Ace's chops and straightforward rock guitar sound with KISS, and I love his voice and Bronx accent! 'Space Invader' sounds like a logical progression to his work with KISS. This release is a hook-laden riff-fest replete with a good dose of biting lead guitar and reverb! I don't know how or why, but all those statins and Viagra are keeping the old 'space man' young! GREAT job Ace! My only complaint would be that this CD sounds a bit compressed, and it just may be a victim of 'the loudness wars' (please Google). SHAME on so many recording companies these days for raping the sound quality of CD's and other digital files! I come from a generation where dynamic range and sound clarity ruled the day. We need to get back to that.

The album that makes Gene & Paul lose sleep
Nothing Ace could do would make them lose sleep. just enjoy it, Ace has NEVER been a draw or a seller solo. SHiiiiiit, he couldn't go GOLD in the 80's when everyone else was going multi platinum.Just enjoy what he does instead of being the Idiot yelling Free Bird at a Funeral.

release date?
not surprising the single wasn't great...not that it was a bad song just kind of generic and forgettable. Hopefully the rest of the album will have something to offer
