Best soundtrack I've ever heard,

To put it plain and simple, this is a great cd. All the songs are good. I don't like rap music that much but I liked the ones from this album. Most soundtracks just have 1 or 2 great songs, but this one has a lot of them. Without a doubt, this is the best soundtrack that I've ever listened to. For most soundtracks, i'd recommend you to just get the single of the song you like, but you need to get this whole album. I liked Fly Like An Eagle, the Monstars' Anthem, and I Believe I Can Fly the best.

Perfectly compliments the movie,

When I first heard that there was a new movie called Space Jam starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny, I was like, "Huh?" I wasn't really interested in seeing it (it turns out the movie IS pretty good), but I heard from my friends that the soundtrack is pretty decent. I listened to it, and they were right. The soundtrack seems to be PG-rated (if THAT), and it's a good thing because the movie is like that too. But another thing is that it seems to be targeted toward the high school audience (I was 15 when this came out), so if you're over 18, don't expect to be bumping this in your car or anything. This isn't to say the soundtrack is bad. There are great songs like R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly", Monica's "For You I Will", and D'Angelo's "I Found My Smile Again". All-4-One also shows up to sing "I Turn To You", which most people probably didn't know was recorded before Christina Aguilera's 2000 #3 hit. I like Christina's rendition better, but this version is still good. Since Space Jam is about basketball, it wouldn't be right not to have some energetic tracks on here. B-Real, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, LL Cool J and Method Man bring us The Monstars' Anthem (the Monstars were the opposing team in the movie), otherwise known as "Hit `Em High". And the title track, performed by Quad City DJs, is decent, but all their songs sound the same to me. The last song is the humorous "Buggin'" as performed by Bugs Bunny (and was written by Jay-Z, I must add). Bugs and the other characters are voiced by Billy West (best known as the voice of the Honey Nut Cheerios bee), but at the end of the song it sounds like he's getting lazy with the voice (of Bugs, anyway). And I'm not exactly sure why Robin S. (of "Show Me Love" fame) is on here, but her "Givin' U All That I've Got" sounds like her other songs too. But regardless, this soundtrack was a perfect match for the movie. I don't really listen to it that much now, but it's still great.

This is the best soundtrack I own(considering I only have 2,the other one is Titanic). It's for fans of pop/rock, r&b, and rap alike. About the highlights: 1. "Fly Like an Eagle"- Beautiful, inspirational, and uplifting. 4. "I Believe I can Fly"- Good for anyone going thru hard times. 3. "Space Jam"- It made me want to dance, which was unfortunate because I don't do that very well. 7. "For You I Will"- A melodic, but overplayed ballad. 8. "Upside Down"- A remake of the Diana Ross hit. Music to reminisce about your crushes to. 9. "Givin' U All That I've Got"- Slammin' beat, although I didn't always understand what Robin S. was singing. 10. "Basketball Jones"- Hilarious and written by none other than Cheech and Chong. 13. "That's the Way"- Another cover, this time of KC & the Sunshine Band. It's funky. The other songs were too hip-hop. Contrary to what another reviewer said, this CD had just the right amount of singing(he or she must be a rap fan). "I Turn to You" is alright(now,it's also a Christina Aguilera song). "Buggin'" was OK, but eventually it gets annoying. "Space Jam" has more good songs than most CD's. Buy it,everybody!

As soon as i watched space jam the film, i loved it and the songs that went with it.So i downloaded and copied onto a cd a few of the songs that appeared on the soundtrack album.I was disapointed as most of the songs i liked i couldnt get and i particularly liked 'Givin you all that i got' another song i was unable to download. But i was able to get my favourite song and that was 'Fly like an eagle' the main song of the film. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoyed the film and it really has some quality tunes on here. Most RnB and rap orientated songs but overall a soundtrack at its best.

Best R'n'B/rap soundtrack ever,
By
This review is from: Space Jam: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Most movie soundtracks featuring rap and R'n'B songs usually contain one or two well-known hits and then some mediocre songs are added as filler. Not this album! After 5 years, still it is a great album with never-aging songs.Seal's "Fly Like an Eagle", Coolio's "the Winner", Salt-N-Pepa's "Upside Down" and the hilarious'y funny "Basketball Jones" from Chris Rock are the best one on this. But let's not forget the two best songs of the album: the amazing "Hit 'em High" and D'Angelo's haunting, cool and yet warm "I Found My Smile Again" are true masterpieces. These two songs alone are worth getting this album for. Get it!

Years ago soundtracks used to be okay with few big name artists and never moved up the charts much. But boy has that changed, now every big movie trys to push a big soundtrack with star studded artists. Space Jam is no different with cuts by Monica, D'Angelo, and R. Kelly. But this soundtrack offers a wide range of R&B and Rap songs that satisfy a great number of people, myself included. This soundtrack was one of the best of 1996, but not of all time, but still a good collection of songs. The Standouts are D'Angelo's I Found My Smile Again, Monica's For You I Will, R Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly, and Seal's Fly Like An Eagle(although the original was 4 times better). The cd has been in my cd player for years and I still play it on a reguluar basis. I'll admit a few tracks could be better but considering that it was a movie for the family, I found it to be worthwhile. It even has a track with Method man and Busta amongst others. THe track lyrically is not your typical rap song because after all kids were a big part of the audience. But it had a decent hook and I liked it. But still this is mainly an R&B album, and I recommend it to those who like R&B. Young or old you will probally like this cd, I do!

Space Jam movie & soundtrack. A dynamic duo!,

It's rare in this day and age that a movie and its accompanying soundtrack(s) goes great together. Warner Sunset and Atlantic Records did an awesome job with the release, "Space Jam-Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture", the soundtrack to the 1996 flick starring Warner Brothers' legendary icon, Bugs Bunny, and retired NBA superstar, Michael Jordan.
Featuring an array of international superstars and producers, the soundtrack was a definite platinum hit during the late 1990's. What can I say?....every song is an anthem. Songs like Quad City DJs' title track, "Space Jam", Salt-N-Pepa's "Upside Down (Round and Round)", '90's club diva, Robin S. with "Givin' U All That I Got" and D'Angelo's jazz-inspired, "I Found My Smile Again" helps to keep the party jumpin'! Also, what a CD without its share of love ballad anthems from Monica (the Diane Warren-penned, "For You I Will"), R. Kelly, Changing Faces & Jay-Z ("All of My Days"), which also appeared on Changing Faces' sophomore release and All-4-One's "I Turn to You". The "song remakes" are also shown here, with songs by Seal (the Steve Miller Band's, "Fly Like An Eagle"), the unusual pairings of the Spin Doctors and hip-hop legend, Biz Markie (KC & the Sunshine Band's, "That's the Way (I Like It") and late, great R&B superstar, Barry White, and comedian, Chris Rock, with their hilarious take on Cheech & Chong's classic, "Basketball Jones". The real highlights, in my opinion, would be R. Kelly's #1 signature 1996 anthem, "I Believe I Can Fly", and the movie's bad guys entrance theme, the Trackmasters-produced, "Hit 'Em High (The Monstars Anthem)", featuring rap megastars, Flipmode Squad leader, Trevor "Busta Rhymes" Smith, Cypress Hill frontman, Louis "B-Real" Freese, Artis "Coolio" Ivey, Jr., James Todd Smith (aka LL Cool J) and Wu-Tang Clan member, Clifford "Method Man" Smith. If you've seen this movie a billion times, you'll know that there were only 3 songs that weren't even used in the film at all: -Coolio and LV with the Curtis Mayfield-sampled, "The Winner" (but it was played to coincide with movie's home video/DVD release) -R. Kelly featuring Changing Faces & Jay-Z, "All of My Days" (which was on Changing Faces's sophomore album) -Bugs Bunny rapping with fellow Looney Tuner, Daffy Duck, on "Buggin'" (which was penned by none other than former Def Jam Records president, and Beyonce's husband, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter") In conclusion, if you only like the soundtrack and not the movie, or vice versa, you've got to admit that the pairing (movie & soundtracks) are great together. Also, if you're into movie scores like I am, buy the Space Jam Motion Picture Score Album, composed & conducted by James Newton Howard. Space Jam. One of music's all-time soundtracks.

Welcome to the Space Jam,
By
This review is from: Space Jam: Motion Picture Score (Audio CD)
Happy New Year to everyone! This review is for the score in the film, not the soundtrack with the songs. James Newton Howard scores this film much in the style of the old Warner Bros. cartoon composers, like the great Carl Stalling. The music is mickey-moused to fit to every single, tiny movement that is on screen. This is not to say that all of the music is like this because it isn't. Some of the music is scored in a rhythm band like fashion with guitars and drums. There is some thematic material that can be found throughout the score for both good and evil. The theme for the good guys is a heroic brassy 7 note motif that can be heard everytime one of the good guys does something heroic. The theme for the bad guys is a comedic like rhythm section motif that is perfect for a Warner Bros. cartoon. The majority of the rest of the music is mainly old- fashioned cartoonish style music, with some full orchestral blasts here and there. An enjoyable score all around.

This is not the purchase you should make if you are buying for a child who likes the movie Space Jam. The child will not recognize most of the songs and the language is not appropriate for younger children in several songs. If you are older looking for some good music, buy it. For younger Space Jam fans, buy the soundtrack.

A pretty solid 90's JAM...,
By
This review is from: Space Jam: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I was eleven when `Space Jam' hit the theaters, and I was in heaven. I was also in heaven bumping this soundtrack up in my bedroom pretending to be a Monstar and totally rapping to every word of `Hit 'Em High', which is still the best track on the album. Sitting back and looking at the soundtrack a good thirteen years later, I am flushed with a good amount of nostalgia, but I am also able to see it for what it is, and while it is a pretty solid collection of 90's hip-hop and R&B, it also contains a fair amount of material that doesn't hold up so well now (and I'm kind of shocked it ever did).
I still really like this soundtrack for the most part, but there are some tracks that leave me scratching my head. Let's take a stab at this. Of course, the R&B singles were all stellar, and they soaked up a deserved amount of radio play as well. Seal's `Fly Like an Eagle' and R. Kelly's `I Believe I Can Fly' are still stunning thirteen years later. Fantastic R&B classic's that raise the spirits and contain stunning vocals. Monica's `For You I Will' is a basic yet beautifully done ballad. I've always been a huge fan of Monica, and this was one of my favorite songs from her. All-4-One was one of my favorite groups in the 90's and so I was stoked they were on the soundtrack. Personally, `I Turn to You' is one of those tracks that hasn't aged well, and it is rather standard and has a familiar (not in a good way) feel to it. `Hit 'Em High' is the best thing on here. I was not big into rap at the tender age of eleven, but I knew who these guys were because my older sisters were all corrupting me (haha) so I already loved Busta Rhymes and actually would hide in my closet to listen to this song since my dad had banned all rap music from the house. I still love this song. Quad City DJ's were pretty big ("ride that choo-choo") and `Space Jam' is just as fun (if not regurgitated) as their other music at that point. Much less fun is Robyn S.'s `Givin U All That I've Got'. Yeah, it has that BASKETBALL GAME feel to it, but it's kind of `blah' if you ask me (and completely 90's with no modern appeal at all). I loathe Biz Markie, so his collaboration with The Spin Doctors is atrocious, especially since the original was fine on it's own. Consider me a fan of Salt-N-Pepa, so I LOVE that they are here and there track is wonderful! I was a big fan of Coolio at the time (`Gangsters Paradise' was my favorite song at the time, thanks to major radio play) but `Winner' is kind of weak if you ask me. I also loved Changing Faces and think their compliment to the soundtrack is one of the best here. I have never really gotten the love for D'Angelo, and I just find `I Found My Smile Again' to be an out-of-place track on the album. The humorous tracks included (Bugs's rap and Chris Rock's spoken `Basketball Jones') are both great additions and still make me chuckle. So, all-in-all this is a pretty solid effort and it is one of the best compilations of 90's R&B/Hip-Hip available (and from a Looney Toons movie no less!) so you really can't go wrong with this. In hindsight they could have done a little better, but it's hard to fault them for corralling together a slew of hits that represent a time in music history without taking away from the funky freshness of the films subject. |
