5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of its kind since Burial's Untrue December 29, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
To be honest, The title to my review is a bit deceitful. When I say that this is the best album of "it's kind since Untrue" I don't exactly mean that this is in the same genre as that album. But rather that both of these albums seem to exist in their own separate genres; bathed in musical darkness that calls upon themes of loneliness and sorrow. Nicolas Jaar's Space is only Noise is about as haunting as electronic music gets, at times bordering on spine tingling creepiness. The female vocalist on "Balance her in between your eyes" is a good example. At the beginning of the track we hear the soft strummings of an acoustic guitar, then the piano looms us in as if we're walking down a dark long hallway, and then--OoooooOOOOhhh this frightening voice pops up from behind you like the wailings of a long lost ghost bride. It is startling to say the least, but it is also a good example for Jaar's profound ability to keep his listener's attention, his talent for structure, and most obviously his gift for capturing a mood. The rest of the album is just as memorable and mezmerizing, combining the atmosphere of Early David lynch with Nick Cave and maybe even some light tinges of Aphex Twin.

This is an album that pulls you through each song like a haunted house ride, there are times you feel uneasy and unsettled, but the music is so well put together so cohesive that you don't think for a second about getting off. Personally I think this is one of the best releases of the year by a major talent. Nicolas Jaar is only 21, but his music certainly doesn't show his age. This album sounds like it was created by an artist who has been making these type of graceful electronic enigmas for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy it. April 10, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Rather than go into longwinded ravings, I will just say that this is cutting edge electronic/ experimental music at the forefront. It is wonderful and makes me realise that there are still artists out there trying so hard, who dont or wont get the recognition they deserve. Go on, be daring and buy this. You wont regret a penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Once in a while.... May 11, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Every once in a while a truly imaginative and challenging composer/artist will come along to quicken the pulse and fire the imagination. This album is mesmeric and is one of the most rewarding aural experiences in recent years. Nicolas Jaar is an artist who I will folow with interest in the coming years.

5.0 out of 5 stars mood May 28, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Brilliant electronic music with roots that go deep. This album is a perfect contemporary for anyone interested in where electronic music can be today. It can be listened to intently, in the background, to sleep. This could be a perfect soundtrack for a choreographer for modern dance. The texture and the sound, it's wonderful. Nicolas Jaar is not pushing the envelope here. He has created a gorgeous album that in on par with Gudrun Gut's "i put a record on" of a few years' back. It's the kind of music that, if you hear it somewhere, you are likely to ask with curious desire: "What is that?!?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Give yourself some space..... March 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Coming out at the same time as James Blake is maybe a little unfortunate for Nicholas Jaar. However, it's entirely possible that in a couple of years this will be the 'experimental' album of the 2011 that people will remember more.It doesn't have the radio friendly tracks like Blake's cover of 'Limit to your love' but it hangs together well as a whole and is the kind of album that you would describe as a 'grower'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love him or hate him wait some people hate him? October 11, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Yes that one song on here sounds like that Nick Cave song you love so what Nic probably knows it and probably used it as a jumping off point and if you want to you can google around and find out for yourself. Discogs classes this as "Downtempo, Deep House, Ambient" which I can live with but my favorite parts are the jazziest parts. It is not upbeat OH WELL. I give it 5 stars because it is excellent.
