When Joey and Jet, his first book for children, was published in 2004, Publishers Weekly praised it as "visually enticing." The Horn Book described it as "a minimal-vocabulary depiction of boy and dog [which] quickly segues into a lively tour of prepositions...a comical and satisfying story." Booklist called it a "clever, energetic romp." Kirkus Reviews declared it "an excellent introduction to what can usually be a difficult concept for youngsters." And School Library Journal said "libraries will want to fetch copies for themselves."

This review is from: Joey and Jet in Space (Richard Jackson Books (Atheneum Hardcover)) (Hardcover)
James Yang has an amazing ability to put the right colors on the page. The illustrations in this book - just like Joey & Jet I - leap off the page is an incredibly unique style.
If you have young children who love books - or just want a book with illustrations attractive enough to put in a frame and hang on your child's wall - this is the book for you. Your kids will thank you !

I first got this from the library when my son was about 18 months old, and the first time we read it, we re-read it about 10 times. He loved it from the start and now, at age 3, we still read it on a regular basis.
The illustrations, the timing and the fantasy world all blend to create a wonderful tale of a boy and his dog. We read this before the original Joey and Jet, and like The Empire Strikes Back, this is one of the few instances where the sequel is better than the original.
