Grade 3-5 Brief two-page chapters include a narrative of the 1986 Challenger tragedy; a history of the development of the shuttle; and explanatory chapters covering the shuttle anatomy, life on board, and satellites. Final chapters deal with what went wrong with the shuttle's technology and what the 21st Century may hold for shuttle exploration. Illustrations and page lay-out are attractive. Especially interesting is the cross-section drawing of the shuttle and a brief table giving its specifications. This title has a broader scope than Zachary Kent's The Story of the Challenger Disaster (Childrens, 1986), which primarily covered the human tragedy. The non-technical writing style is easy to understand, and the organization of chapters is logical.
