3.0 out of 5 stars its ok
Its a good book about the stuff you go through and all that, but the guy wrote it 20 years ago so its kinda hard to keep up with, sometimes it seems really outdated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, even for adults. Gave me flashbacks..., September 16, 1999

I read this book 12 years ago (I'm 24 now), and I remember it to be one of the funniest, most original books I have ever read(and I HAVE read quite a few. I am now a grad student at Harvard!)I recently re-read this book, and still found it to be incredibly amusing, and it certainly reminded me of how life was back in the day. I recommend it to people of all ages, even adults. This book is just genius!

4.0 out of 5 stars Space Station Seventh Grade, May 21, 2001

Space Station Seventh Grade, by Jerry Spinelli, is a pretty realistic book about junior high school. It deals with some of the conflicts of growing up pretty well. The book begins with Jason, a kid entering the seventh grade. From the summer of sixth grade to the summer of seventh, this book accounts for most of the problems and issues Jason has with seventh grade and general life. It talks about the big things in middle school like girls, brothers, food, pimples, and friends. This book was my fifth by Jerry Spinelli, and I've read better and worse. I gave it 4 stars because it was a little weird being written 20 years ago. I reccomend it to middle schoolers and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars helps kids adjust to middle school, April 25, 2005
'Space Station 7th Grade' is a great, funny, and enertaining book. My son is in the seventh grade and reading this book was like reading a real life story of a kid new to middle school.

I really enjoyed the part of the book when Jason first had to take a shower after PE. Students having to run around in a huge shower room together naked as jay birds is many elementary kids 'worst nightmare'. My son's PE teacher has really good pointers, www bganssle com tsshowers html, for parents and kids who share this worry. Kids who feel awkward about their first showers at school, trust me and be like Jason in the book and give it a try. Soon any discomfort will pass.

Do you have a son or daughter about to start middle school? Have them read Space Station 7th Grade. My son had to learn many new things when starting middle school, the book was a like a guide book to prepare him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Middle School Revealed, July 14, 2003
By
J. Mark Miller (Southbridge, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
"Space Station Seventh Grade" tells the story of one boy named Jason Herkimer in his seventh grade year. Truthfully, Jason could be any boy or girl of that age. This is an honest look at what seventh graders experience and go through, and although some references are a bit outdated (the book was printed in the early 80s), the basic concepts remain unchanged. Readers of the same age as the main character will ultimately sympathize with him, while older readers will find themselves laughing and shaking their heads as they read about incidents they very well could have been involved in back in the "good old days". This is good stuff. Among other adventures, Jason fights pimples, finds himself lost in the local ghetto at Christmastime, and accidentally injures his hopeless crush during a wild snowball fight- an incident that will certainly make everyone cringe and chuckle at the same time. There is good moral value as well- throughout the course of his year, Jason grows mentally and emotionally and finds himself re-evaluating the way he looks at the world, especially after a tragedy occurs. For a truthful look at the world of seventh grade boys, and girls as well- come on, what kind of story about middle school guys doesn't have chicks as well?- look no further than this book. Jerry Spinelli comes through again with "Space Station Seventh Grade", which will delight readers of all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book To Remember, October 6, 2000

This review is from: Space Station Seventh Grade (Paperback)
I am a 27 year old woman and I remember loving this book. Although I can't remember too many specifics, this book always pops in my mind when recalling the joy of reading as a kid. I remeber being able to relate to the book. As a girl I also recall feeling as if I had some insight as to what was going on in the minds of boys. Great book. I do also agree with the reviewer who said that there was some questionable language in this book but that was part of the fun. The book reads just as if you are living this boys life. I believe the connection kids will feel with this book and the joy of having a book that they can't put down greatly outweighs the qestionable effects this MIGHT have on a younger reader. Besides, I didn't read about anything in this book that I wasn't already exposed to in my everyday life in junior high.

5.0 out of 5 stars like a guide book to middle school, May 5, 2005
By
I think 'Space Station Seventh Grade' is a great book. I'm in sixth grade and reading this book was like reading a guide book. It's an easy book to relate with.

Like Jason in the book, school showers were a real surprise for me. However, unlike Jason I've still not gotten over my dislike of showering in front of my classmates! (In my school neither the boys nor girls locker rooms have private showers.)

I can't understand why so many people and polls, such as misterpoll com 1335548515 html, thinks its OK for schools to not provide privacy for kids in gym class. As a girl, modesty is much more important to me than it seems to be to Jason and his friends. I think privacy for girls is more more of an issue than for most boys, so private shower cubicles should always be provided in the girls locker room, even if the boys locker room only has group showers.

Jason goes through real life issues and reading about them, seeing how he deals with them, helps me work through simalar struggles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book. Get it and read it now!, September 8, 2004
A Kid's Review
I read this book in the summer of 2004. Currently I am in 7th grade, and the year is 2004. I've been in Jr High for one year. For my school JR HIGH starts in 6th. Nywayz, This book is really like Jr. High. The crushes, the sibling rivalry, the broken hearts, and all that stuff. This book is good from when Jason is saying summer is like a funnel, to when he and Marceline ride back on one bike. I reccomend this book to anyone going or in Jr. High/Middle School.
