4.0 out of 5 stars CREATIVE!, December 31, 2005

This review is from: Space Tourism: Do You Want to Go?: Apogee Books Space Series 49 (Paperback)
Today we are on the cusp of a space tourism industry as being witnessed by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galatic announcement to forge the Southwest Regional Spaceport in New Mexico into a significant launch facilities for hundreds of fare paying passengers before the end of the decade. Nonetheless, John Spencer's book is wonderfully imaginative in the Part 2 (Chapters 4,5, and 6). I commend the book to those who dare to think beyond the traditional. It takes this type of fanciful scenraio-building to create the reality many of us hope for in the next decades.

For someone new to the subject and concepts of space tourism, this book is an excellent introduction to what may very well be the near future. John Spencer seemingly captures the essence of all that's good and pure with venturing into space. This book is well organized at presenting a past, present, and future perspective on space tourism. The discussion on obstacles and how to overcome those factors is very intriguing, as the role of politics and economics take center stage. The wide array of design concepts for space tourism is most intriguing.

As a book full of great ideas, future concepts, and an overall fun read, I highly recommend this book.
