The second edition of Space: A Visual History was entirely redesigned and programmed from the original 1993 version. This new edition is the most complete archive of American space flight available in a CD ROM format. The second edition contains 87 minutes of video in a 320 x 240 pixel format, in 60 different original films. Each film is a new compilation taken from NASA source tapes, edited, and an original narration added. The first edition contained film from Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle missions. The new edition contains newly edited films for each of the original mission groups and entirely new video and text for the Skylab, the International Space Station, and Space Shuttle missions through November 1998. In addition, Mercury and Gemini missions film, not found in the original version have been included. Programming changes to the product provide much faster access to the contents of the CD ROM under both Windows 95, Windows 98, and Macintosh operating systems. 100 photographs were scanned from the NASA archives for the product, all of which are easily exported to the readers computer for unlimited reuse. Similarly, all of the video on the product is exportable for unlimited reuse in the home or educational environments. Additional text was added from the "The Space Almanac" written by Anthony Curtis, Ph.D. The author and editors were careful to preserve invaluable archival footage such as Presidential comments on Spaceflight, manned missions to the moon, and day/night footage of the earth from Space.
