Book Description

October 1978 0890092117 978-0890092118 1st
Here at last is the comprehensive, all-color guide to the major spacecraft of the last century, 2,000-2,100 AD, the time of the great advances in space technology that followed the first, hesitant steps of the late 1900s.

Primarily an identification manual, it examines the 40 major types of craft operating during the period, including those of the inhabited systems of Alpha and Proxima Centauri, giving details of their development and operational history, and charts of their technical specifications. The book is divided into sections covering Military, Civil and Commercial, and Special Function, and the craft range from sleek interceptors through specialized research vessels to private yachts, while there is also a small section of unidentified space vehicles discovered under various circumstances, and still shrouded with mystery.

The individual stories of these craft are set against the historical background which created them. New industrial techniques and resources led to more advanced ships which opened the door to further possibilities in an accelerating spiral of development.

Contact with other inhabitants of our galaxy in 2036 AD led to an era of war and peace, industry and innovation, during which the greatest advances in space engineering ever made produced a fascinating array of hardware.

5.0 out of 5 stars The entire series, May 31, 1998
By
This review is from: Spacecraft, 2000-2100 A.D.: Terran Trade Authority Handbook (Hardcover)
Cowley's series was known as the TTA for Terran Trade Authority handbooks. Contrary to some of the above posts the series had four books. Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD, Great Space Battles, Spacewreck (ghostships and derelects of space) and Starliners. The art work in all four which I have is very good, however sometimes the stories don't match the pictures very well. The stories are well done and they give a good sense to an interesting universe I am sorry we did not get to see more of.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting and fun book to have..., May 10, 2003

This review is from: Spacecraft, 2000-2100 A.D.: Terran Trade Authority Handbook (Hardcover)
Take artwork of spaceships, say from the cover of books or from magazines, and write a history around each one, listing why they were made, what they did and what happened to them. Now put all this ships into a book, split the book into three parts: military, commercial and special function, add a timeline, blueprints and specifcations. Not only did I enjoy the book, but I even recognized much of the artwork used.
I just wish there was more to the book and that the 'history' had more 'meat' to it. I may look for other books by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars An original and inspired early look on sci-fi starships, May 10, 2004

NB "Nate" (Smithfield, UT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spacecraft, 2000-2100 A.D.: Terran Trade Authority Handbook (Hardcover)
This is a very great book with very detailed paintings of future warships and a good description to go along with each one, a must have for anyone who loves art, sci-fi, Space, war, or new ideas (or any combination of such), or is just interested in seeing what it is. No computer 3d stuff, just pure imagination. There is none of that old sci-fi pulp magazine rockets and UFOs and many of the starships in the book would put many of the spaceships used in movies today to shame (by judging how they looked like).

My favorite warhip has to be the Wasp
