5.0 out of 5 stars slurping sounds + a mystery = FUN for kids! September 9, 2012
By vscrol
I bought this for my young son based on the title because he enjoys reading aloud books that play with sound (what kid doesn't like to slurp?). But as it turns out, he loved the story even more because it contains a mystery, which kept him thoroughly engaged! He has just started reading books on his own before bedtime and THE SPAGHETTI-SLURPING SEWER SERPENT has become part of the regular rotation. He never seems to get tired of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slurp up this book! April 2, 2012
This is bound to be one of those books your children will request over and over at bedtime. The writing and illustrations are so silly and fun for both the reader and child. I have a feeling Laura Ripes is going to become a big hit in the children's book market.

What a great book! The main character, Sammy Sanders just knows that a spaghetti serpent is slurping up his mom's spaghetti in the sewer after she puts it down the garbage disposal. It's a really creative, tongue-twister that my 8-year old son enjoyed reading. I loved the characters and the bright colors that illustrate the book. So much should read it tonight!

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly, fun, and great illustrations July 18, 2013
By Ann

Me and my 3 year old love this book! The pictures are bright and fun to look at with little surprises in the background of each picture (see how many pictures the serpent is hiding in). The rhyme is fun and a bit challenging to get through so reading it out loud is a combination of giggles at the story as well as laughing at Mommy's tied tongue. It is a cute story that moves quickly enough for a toddler and combines simple and more complicated words for appropriate educational development.

As an unexpected benefit, reading this story has made my son more aware that there are sewers all around us. He tells me he knows he has to be careful that he doesn't fall in because it is smelly, icky, and the serpent might just want to be left alone.

I have this book for Kindle but might buy a hard copy because we like it so much!

The colors are attractive and eye catching, and the story is entertaining. My three year old grand daughter gets the giggles every time we read it. She now tries to read it to me. It is a great book to share reading and laughter.

2.0 out of 5 stars the main course January 9, 2014
By Jaroca2
Format:Kindle Edition
was not up to my 4 y/o grandson's taste.

He usually thoroughly enjoys when we read with him but there was nothing in this story that kept his interest. He pretty much walked away less than 1/4 way into the book and wouldn't try to help read any more later.

Sorry....this one didn't pique his interest. More effort seemed to go into the title than the storyline.

More About the Author

Laura Ripes was born in Chicago, IL., she's a children's book author and voiceover talent. Articulation and diction play an important role in the voiceover industry, which prompted her to write, THE SPAGHETTI-SLURPING SEWER SERPENT.

The top 5 places you may bump into Laura Ripes.

1. Circling around Vernon Hills, IL., driving her three daughters to their many activities (she'll be the one with the big Chocolate Lab hanging out the window).
2. Walking with her husband and CJ, the big (car loving) Chocolate Lab. However, it may look like CJ is walking them!
3. In her yard, (looking a muddy mess) trimming bushes, picking flowers and pulling weeds.
4. Recording voiceover auditions in her top of the line recording studio (aka her closet).
5. Writing children's books late at night. She may appear to be sitting there staring into space, but don't worry, ideas are simmering and preparing to boil over onto the page. Unfortunately, this part requires patience (lots of 'em!).
