The only book you need to plan a vacation in Spain,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spain for Dummies (Paperback)
This was a great travel book. I chose all of my hotels and restaurants from Spain for Dummies. My family of five went to Spain for 10 days. We went to Seville, San Sabastian, Bilboa (day trip) and Barcelona after reading about each region in this book. Each city gave us a very different flavor of what Spain has to offer. The family friendly icons made it easy to find the items that were most appropiate for us. We followed the recommendations on which small, family run hotels and inns to stay in. They were perfect because they were kid friendly, yet right in the heart of the cities. The restaurants that the Spain for Dummies recommended were excellent (I can't say the same for the hotel conceirge's recommendations). The entertainment sections were also fantastic to guide us to the best bull fight arenas, to great flamenco dancer performances, and to horse shows. Our vacation was a complete success. Now I look for Dummies books for all my travel plans (unfortunately there are not many for Asia yet).

Don't be put off by the name or techie provenance of the Dummies' guides... this is a great book for tips and overviews. Lots of practical and accessible advice. A good companion to the richly illustrated DK guides.

We are planning a wonderful cruise to Spain for our 50th anniversary. I want to know enough to have a great time. This book is such a good base. It has sections on each of the cities we will visit. It has tips and recommendations from Frommer's, as well. I am interested in the architecture of Antoni Gaudi, and all the buildings are covered in a beautiful way. Shady streets to wander, parks to see, views that should not be missed. Not just the tapas bars and nightlife, which I am sure we can find on our own.
The margins of this great book contain little "icons" that tell you "tips","heads up","kid friendly", and my favorite "the real deal". I am also reading Michener's Iberia, brushing up on my high-school Spanish, watching and reading "SPAIN: a Culinary Road Trip", by Mario Batali...all thanks to Amazon.
