...When You Want The Best,
By
This review is from: Spalding 64-452 NBA Zi/O Excel Basketball (28.5) (Sports)
I bought this very same basketball 2 years ago for my nephew who is really into the sport. It was his birthday and I didn't have any idea what else to get him. He had a lot of basketballs, but as everyone knows that is into this stuff, there is a huge price range for just about all sports equipment, no matter what it is. You can get by with a lot cheaper budget when you have too. His basketballs were mostly economy ones he had picked up locally. Not bad, but definitely now like the look, feel, and bounce of this baby. It may be pricier than most, but is most positively the best quality basketball either I, or my nephew has ever held. As soon as I picked it up and bounced it a few times, I wanted it, regardless of the price. It's as solid and tough as a basketball can be, and makes a pronounced tight flattened sound upon hitting the court, (or asphalt). Its grip and performance is superior in every respect. To be honest, I was quite surprised at the difference such quality made actually playing with it. My nephew took to using it all time, and now two years later it looks little worse for the wear. The outside "pimples" are barely noticeably worn. And it is still has the great feel and tight bounce. There is no doubt that one can get by with a much cheaper ball for back yard play. The price and quality of this ball is not needed in many cases. On the other hand, if you are interested in holding and playing with the very best, I highly recommend this Spalding NBA. I have never felt anything with a better quality before or since. It's well worth the hefty price tag in that respect...

This is an excellent indoor/outdoor ball. I bought it a year ago for my son who plays basketball year-round, and I use it when we play together. It is as good as any of the 20 or so balls I've had over the years of playing and coaching. It is softer with a better feel than most outdoor balls, with a pseudo-leather texture and grip. It's not quite as good of a feel as an expensive indoor leather ball, but those balls would be ruined by outdoor play. It has held up well over the year of abuse. I don't know of a better indoor/outdoor ball, regardless of cost.

I bought 2 of these for a little 3 on 3 tournament at work. After 5 games to 21 the seams were already coming apart.

Indoor and outdoor standards are different, but this doesn't even meet the outdoor standard. Have played basketball for 20+ years and would not recommend.

Don't buy this ball thinking that you're getting an "official NBA game ball" - it's not leather, it's a composite. Anyone interested in a genuine leather ball (for indoor use only) should look at the Official NBA Game Ball that retails from about $75-$90. Spalding makes the official ball but it's just not this one. I can't speak to the value of this ball, never having played it, but most indoor/outdoor balls have short lives - go out of round and develop lopsidedness within a relatively short time.
