Spalding 80318 Backboard/Rim Combo - 44" Eco-Composite? Backboard

Unfortunately, I did not purchase the universal mounting bracket with the backboard. I purchased it to mount on an existing pole and mounting hardware, but apparently the existing hardware was not universal. I'm still hoping to get this to work, but cold weather and frustration has put this project on hiatus. I also expected the composite to be more solid and sturdy, we already cracked it trying to get it to mount to our existing pole.

I must add that I am extremely impressed with the speed in which it was shipped. I received it 3 days early and in time for Christmas!!

I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE RIM/BACKBOARD. I used it to replace an older one I had on a portable stand. It was also a Huffy so everything fit perfect. The new one is a bit bigger and that helps keep the ball in play on errant shots. It also has the spring on the rim which is very strong. I would probably pull down the whole stand before the spring would give.

I got this to replace a highly weathered backboard on a Huffy Sports portable basketball hoop system. It works well. . . .now that is, after having to modify it.

The backboard fit no problem to the support pole but the "Slam jam" rim was poorly manufactured. It attaches to the backboard it shipped with but is poorly aligned in that the cutouts don't align with the bolt heads that stick out and that should fit in the cutouts.

I got a small grinding wheel that fits on a handheld drill and ground out the area that was needed so that the bolts did not hit the edges of the cutouts anymore. Quite a pain when you have to do this for something new you have purchased. Now, I might expect some trouble with the mounting of the backboard to the pole, but it should not have a problem with its own parts not aligning with themselves.

Another approach that would be quicker would have been to have elongated the holes that are in the plastic backboard so that the bolts could be positioned so that they would line up with the cutouts. But I felt that would weaken the backboard as there is only so much structural integrity there already for the squeezing that takes place when you tighten up the backboard mounting bolts there.

I thought Spalding was an American Co?
The directions were confusing to put together the brackets to hold backboard to pole.
There were parts missing that sent me to hardware store 3 x to rig it so it could work
After finishing there were several screws,bolts etc left over?
What should have taken generously 2 hours to assemble, took time over 3 days.

I won't buy anything in future online that requires assembly!

I recently purchased this product and was very
pleased with its quality, looks and easy setup.
I would highly recomend this item to those looking
for a resonably priced Backboard & Rim.

This hoop is easy to put together and i love being able to dunk on the rim without worring about breaking it. The only drawback i can find is that the backboard is extremely poor for rebounding purposes.

Not only was this backboard and rim shipped promptly it was almost 50% less than what the manufacturer wanted for the same exact thing. I made out great with this purcahse and you will too!

This is made for a youth portable unit held down by sandbags. The backboard is made of flimsy plastic that easily gives when impacted by a ball. If for child's use, you'll likely be satisfied although the components are cheap. The net is made of poor quality string and the rim fits sloppily within the spring-loaded break-away bracket.

This is not for an adult court and it should have been better described.

This backboard was replacing an eleven year old Huffy backboard. Was identical in set up so an easy fit and fix. I did end up purchasing the universal mount. I set up but realized I did not need. If possible, try finding at local sports store to see if universal mount is needed.
