Book Description

June 15, 2005
Jordyn Winters had sashayed right out of her posh 27th floor penthouse apartment-and a doomed engagement to one of Chicago's most wanted bachelors-and found herself living a dream come true in the steamy plantation country on the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Veracruz, Mexico, home to Hotel Mocambo-her hotel. Jordyn knew the hotel business, knew it well through her experience with some of Chicago's most elite establishments, and now, as the proud new owner of Hotel Mocambo, she was about to prove it to the world! There was just one problem. Tonio Belcaraz, a true Latin lover by any definition, was out for blood, and when he descended upon Hotel Mocambo seeking an audience with the new owner, a Mr. Jordan Winters, Jordyn feared her dreams were about to crumble. Tonio, the nephew of the former owner, whose death left the hotel to be sold in a bank forclosure, wants his family's hotel back! Together, Jordyn and Tonio weave an enchanted tale of unbridled love that follows them through a seventeen-year-old secret, greed and lies, death and love. Jordyn's awakening passion could meld their two souls into a union that would transcend any human bond, but can they make it that far? Can they survive the deadly journey? Take a minute, sit back, and enjoy some Spanish Coffee.

"¡Dése prisa! Quickly, please," Jordyn Winters whispered in desperate tones to a stout porter laden with bags and baggage as she continued her sprint down the grand hall towards the hotel reception desk. As she glared in total skepticism at the mob of guests still awaiting room assignment, the air in the hotel lobby one of chaotic enthusiasm and eagerness, Jordyn’s adrenaline was forced to even higher, inhuman levels.

Just short of reaching the lobby, Jordyn caught sight of a weary man wiping his brow as he exited through the main elevator doors, a look of premature relief on his otherwise disgruntled Spanish face as she quickly rushed to his side.

"Diego, is it always this busy at Carnival?" Jordyn begged of the man standing beside her, the inscription on his gold lacquered nametag read ‘Hotel Manager’.

"Sí, señorita Jordyn, and much more." The stout man’s head knowingly nodded. "Carnival brings thousands of people to Veracruz from all over Mexico. This is one of our most festive times of the year." Diego’s frazzled eyes looked up with an expression of apologetic reverence into her bewildered face, yet his deportment conveyed an air of awareness that had quickly become a welcome edge for Jordyn. "This is just the beginning. I’ve just come from the south wing and the rooms are now ready."

"Wonderful! Now we can get these people settled," Jordyn uttered in relief as she gestured toward the overcrowded lobby of the Hotel Mocambo, an elaborate inn of sorts, located on Mocambo Beach mere kilometers outside the port city of Veracruz. Hordes of patrons were sitting, standing, slouching and pacing, all eagerly awaiting their room placements and the commencement of Carnival—a nine-day extravaganza that would festively flood the streets of Veracruz with brilliantly colored parades, fireworks, dances, marimba music, food, and folklore.

As Jordyn and Diego resumed their hurried trek towards the reception desk, they were instantly frozen in their tracks as a deep, imperious voice slapped them both in their already fatigued faces. As the verbal assault continued to ravage her senses, all Jordyn could do was stare, blink her baby blues in disbelief, and stare again.

There was no mistaking to whose body that voice belonged, for even amidst the hundred or so guests in the hotel lobby, his presence was one that could not be denied. The tall, muscled frame housed lean features and a long, sculptured face while his raven black hair roamed past his shoulders, thick and untamed, to meet the wisps of dark curls pushing against the V of his open cotton shirt. The set of his chin was stubborn, his profile sharp and confident, while the shadow of his barely-there beard cast a mysterious edge to his chiseled face that spoke of power and ageless strength.

Jordyn’s parched throat and pounding heart were merely a prelude to her mind’s forthcoming intoxication as she peered at the spectacle before her, unable to breathe in the fear that the slightest movement would eradicate this mirage. She wasn’t even hearing the words now, nor the tone with which they were being conveyed so inhospitably to the desk clerk. She was so totally mesmerized by the sight of him that only her eyes were capable of moving.

His massive shoulders were endless molded bronze, and even though his attire was casual, he emitted a self-confident presence with an air of authority that blatantly demanded immediate obedience. As he moved, pure power coiled within him, accenting a raw sensuality that chilled Jordyn to her core. He was unique, unmatched, and unbelievable!

"I want to see the owner now, and I will not be put off." As the stranger’s voice pierced the air around her, Jordyn’s spell was broken. All of the realities around her now flooded back in full force—the chatter of the hotel staff, the dull roar of patrons from the lobby, the Spanish music floating lazily through the hotel sound system, and the sanguine voice of Diego beside her as he gently nudged her arm.

"I will take care of this, Señorita Jordyn, I can..."

"No, Diego," Jordyn snapped almost deliriously. "Please," Jordyn’s voice softened, "go check on the main restaurant and make sure the buffet is ready." Jordyn’s frame straightened to a determined posture. "I can handle this."

Jordyn didn’t even wait for Diego’s acknowledgement. She merely kept her focus on the stranger standing at the reception desk and with steely determination, marched toward the wild, magnificent beast. As she closed the distance between them, Jordyn wondered if she would actually be able to maintain her poise as owner of the Hotel Mocambo or if she would melt hopelessly into a pool of admiring jelly in the face of such masculine beauty. Get it together, Jordyn silently rebuked, it’s only a man!

"May I be of assistance?" Jordyn sweetly yet very professionally asked as she reached the side of the stranger, willing herself not to look too deeply into his alluring mahogany eyes as he turned to meet his addresser.

"I understand a Jordan Winters is the current owner of this hotel?" His voice was strong and potent as he surveyed Jordyn, almost as though he was trying to determine if she was indeed someone worth talking to.

"Yes, that’s correct, how can I...."

"You, señorita, can help me by bringing this Mr. Winters out here immediately," the stranger rasped in clipped words, his patience obviously waning with each passing second that he didn’t gain satisfaction. "I have an urgent matter to discuss with him and I fully intend on doing just that."

Mr. Winters? This stranger thinks that Jordyn Winters is a mister?

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Rich & Steamy - that's just the beginning, October 10, 2002

This review is from: Spanish Coffee (Paperback)
This story is what I've been waiting for! The characters are amazing, the story is fabulous, and the erotic writing style - well, it's got me awake at night. This lady should be writing for Harlequin. A definite must-read for anyone who's into the romance genre and looking for spice that's well written and thoroughly entertaining. I'm on my second run-through now and even more in love with "Tonio" than the first time!! 5 stars all around!
