15,000 Spanish Verbs,
By Chenhall, Robert G., PhD (Albuquerque, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 15,000 Spanish Verbs: Fully Conjugated in All the Tenses Using Pattern Verbs (Paperback)
Every serious student of Spanish must have two tools(a good bi-lingual dictionary and a complete guide to the conjugation of the verbs. This book does not provide translations of Spanish verbs (that is the function of the dictionary), but it does provide clear, easily readable keys to the conjugation of any verb one is apt to meet. The index, I am sure contains at least 15,000 entries, each pointing to one of 79 pattern verbs, which are the heart of the book. The pattern verb pages are in a completely standardized format, with the irregular letters clearly indicated in red, for all appropriate tenses, persons and number. This litle book is the best I have found. It is a constant companion to my own small dictionary, and I strongly recommend it to all my intermediate and advanced students as well as anyone else who is seriousabout using Spanish.

Book contained 15,000 conjugations but in very small print. Also, there were no Spanish to English translation for the 15,000 verbs. You had to already know what the verb meant. I found this book only slightly useful and would not reccomend it. There are much better books out there for the same price.

I thought 501 Spanish Verbs published by Barron's Education Series was indispensable for learning Spanish until I came across 15,000 Spanish Verbs, by accident.

Very Helpful Refrance Book,
This review is from: 15,000 Spanish Verbs: Fully Conjugated in All the Tenses Using Pattern Verbs (Paperback)
I am a 4rd year Spanish student and found this book to be a very helpful refrence book, however the presentation of the verbs may not help someone who is just learning the launguage.

This review is from: 15,000 Spanish Verbs Fully Conjugated in All the Tenses Using Pattern Verbs, Second Edition (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone studying Spanish. It covers most of the basic tenses and is very clear and easy to use. What it doesn't do is identify which conjugation belongs to which pronoun, so this might not be the best option for a complete beginner. (I'm a second year college student.) Other than that, it's been a tremendous help.

The first section listing 15,000 verbs is next to useless,

This review is from: 15,000 Spanish Verbs Fully Conjugated in All the Tenses Using Pattern Verbs, Second Edition (Paperback)
As you have read, the book is divided into 3 sections: 1) A list of 15,000 verbs in alphabetical order with a number next to it giving the conjugation form, 2) the different conjugation forms to apply to the 15,000 verbs, and 3) some odds and ends. I read the reviews and a major complaint was that the book gave no definitions for the verbs. Some reviews made it seem insignificant if you were not a beginner, and I am not a beginner. Since I have no fear of actually using a dictionary, I pulled my Spanish dictionary out. Most of the verbs are not in it. I went to several translation sites on the internet and they couldn't translate many of the verbs I chose. Out of curiosity I counted the verbs starting with "es", you know, estar, escuchar, etc. In Websters Spanish verbs there were 11 verbs that start with "es." In "15000", there are approximately 302 verbs that start with "es." So the first section listing 15000 verbs is useless without definitions since they can not be found in either the dictionary or the internet. I will have to ask a native speaker the 302 "es" verbs and see how many he knows. I think Dr. Thompson got carried away with completeness and forgot how he learned the language. It wasn't with 15,000 verbs in front of him, you can be sure. The second section can be very useful in organizing the hundreds of verbs that we actually need to speak fluently. That book would be much more useful.

This book is horrible. I have the 501 Spanish verbs and it is much better. This book is tiny. It lists numerous verbs on one page, then you have to flip to another page to learn how to conjugate it. IT'S RIDICULOUS!!! I was hoping it would have a similar format to the 501 Spanish Verbs. Seriously disappointed.
