Book Description

March 15, 2010
This hard-hitting book both a chronicle and a journalistic piece seeks to rescue the numerous women who stand beside their drug lords, from silence, the scandal sheets, and oblivion. Lovers, friends, companions, family members, the world of these women is made up of passion and pain, of glamour and beauty. Miss Narco is the shocking tale of a group of women who live at the fringes of the law, of violence, and death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting reading June 29, 2011
By JustMe
Format:Paperback
I bought and read this book in Mexico (the Spanish edition) and found it very interesting. It has less history and narco-details than other books that have been written, and is more the story of how several different women got involved in the narco-life. I really enjoyed reading the book...truth that reads like fiction. The writer did a good job of not presenting these women too sympathetically, effectively showing how greed and narcissism (and sometimes love) can lead girls into this kind of life.

"Mexican journalist Javier Valdéz Cárdenas offers women's perspectives on the dark and consuming world of narcotics trafficking. Based on a series of interviews, Valdez's vignettes are all at once engrossing, poignant and frightening." This is as reviewed in "The New Essential Guide to Spanish Reading" which is published by America Reads Spanish: a campaign aimed to increase the use and reading of the Spanish language through the thousands of libraries, schools and book stores in the US.
