I purchased this book for use by my son, who is an older elementary student in terms of school but is at second grade reading level in his foreign language study of Spanish. I take him to private tutoring with a native Spanish speaker who also teaches at a language school. At times, for part of a session his teacher would have him read from a book such as (Spanish written) Magic Treehouse, and I thought this book could be used to provide short reading stories to be finished at one time versus having to place a bookmark in a larger book and pick up at another session. His teacher reviewed the book and said it to be such a wonderful comprehension find.
My son's teacher doesn't use any part of the English portions...but as a Spanish Comprehension tool, she likes it so much that she asked where I got it and said she thought it wonderful for even some of her high school students.
My rating is based on the teacher's wonderful words about this book. So, don't just think to use it only in the grade level capacity and ESL purposes for which the book is advertised. Think of it as a wonderful find for foreign language comprehension and purchase a book based on the student's reading level in the language being studied (ignoring their English comprehension level/school grade level truly in).
