5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Harlequin so far (i'd give it 6 stars if i could)
I don't read much Harlequin, except for Lynne Graham's, I guess, and i don't like her books unconditionally either. But this one is absolutely wonderful.

Cesar Valverde is a darn smart, filthy rich, amazingly sexy... sarcastic, cold, inhuman... parental-neglect survivor. Yet Cesar would do *anything* for his terminally-ill godfather. To please him, Cesar will...

3.0 out of 5 stars Stareted well but fizzled

I had really high expectations for this book. It actually started well, i enjoyed it and it made me laugh severally. The moment they ended up in bed however, the story began to fizzle and became a tad annoying! I barely finished it. The only reason it gets 3 stars is because it's a Lynne Graham book.

To please him, Cesar will fake falling in love and getting engaged to his godfather's "pet". I guess on the inside Cesar is quite sweet.:-)
The "pet" would be our heroine, Dixie; bookish, dowdy, unintentionally-hilarious... warm and kind-hearted.

Dixie's to her throat in debt (due to her family), so she'll act as Cesar's fiancee. Around one third of the book watch Cinderella bloom, and Cesar fight total meltdown tooth and nail.

Then watch the tables really turn and Cesar fall head-over-heels for Dixie's warmth. It's quite endearing. He learns to watch his tongue and gets hilariously jealous. First he growls like a grizzly bear, then he does all he can to ingratiate himself with Dixie (the parts where he's trying to get Dixie's pets on his side, and where he quotes Dixie as he turns down a model's sexual advances are just so funny). There's more to go. From all of Graham's couples, i love Dixie and Cesar best.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant....!!!!!!!!!!!!!, November 22, 2000

This book is prehaps the best so far. I loved every thing about it from Cesar's sarcastic dry comments to Dixie's airhead complex. She is so fresh, she says anything on her mind and is a complete innoncent. Cesar on the other hand is cynical, sarcastic and larger than life. I don't know if the author intented it to be funny but I found lots of bits really funny. Cesar is really a sweet charachter which is shown with the way he works to win Dixie's love. His jelousy of Scott (who Dixie imagens herself to be in love with for a short while) shows a vunerable side of him that makes me think WHERE WERE YOU ALL MY LIFE!!! AND ISN'T IT TIME THAT YOU CAME TO ME?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Great, Great Book!, September 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Spanish Groom (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
As always, Lynne Graham delivered a wonderful read. This book, as ALL her books, has GREAT: gorgeous billionaire hero, virginal heroine, memorable dialogue & scenes, romantic setting, wonderful chemistry between hero and heroine. I have read all her books, and they're all excellent. I eagerly await her newest release. If you enjoy reading romances that are pure escape, romantic, Cinderella-type romances, I highly recommend Lynne Graham.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spanish Groom by Lynne Graham (Harlequin Large Print), November 20, 2006

Pick a comfy spot where you can laugh out loud without disturbing anyone and settle in to devour one of the best light-hearted romances ever ... highly recommended, five stars just doesn't seem good enough for this book!

Description from the book back cover:

It started with a ring ... and ended in marriage! Cesar Valverde was the man with everything. But his beloved godfather was in poor health, and Cesar knew that it would please Jasper if he got married, preferably to Dixie Robinson ... Well, perhaps a temporary engagement would be enough to make Jasper happy ... Beneath Dixie's baggy sweaters Cesar discovered a beautiful, sensual woman. Within a week his bachelor days were over; Dixie had become his wife for real, and, unbeknown to him, the mother of his child!

Felt very surprised after finishing. Lynne Graham wrote with a light hearted romantic comedic style that was refreshing from her previous style. Although both characters were different, they complimented the other and with chemistry. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly reccomend especially if you are a fan of Elizabeth Bevarly or Jill Barnett which this book mirrors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, September 24, 2007
This review is from: Spanish Groom (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
From the Back Cover:
Cesar Valverde was the man with everything-stunning good looks, wealth and a bachelor lifestyle. But Cesar knew it would please his ailing godfather more then anything if he got married, preferably to Dixie Robinson... Well, perhaps a temporary engagement to Dixie would be enough to please Cesar's Godfather.

But Cesar discovered Dixie was a beautiful, sensual virgin, and he couldn't help but make love to her. Cesar's bachelor days were over! Within a week, he was standing at the altar, and Dixie was his bride-though unbeknown to Cesar, she was also the mother of his child!

Comments:
I was a bit skeptical about reading this book because it was written several years ago and I wasn't sure if it would be interesting today - I WAS WRONG. This book was enjoyable, the characters likeable and the interaction between the H & H was laughable.

Cesar is an alpha male sometimes, rude, clueless and domineering but definitely likeable. He sometimes went out of his way to make Dixie happy and you can tell these two where made for each other. Dixie sometimes came across as clueless and naive, but she always had a good reason for her actions.

It is truly funny how their unintentional humor bounces off each other, to the point of being comical and had me laughing out loud.

4.0 out of 5 stars What Has Happened to Presents, April 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spanish Groom (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
I loved this book. It is the perfect I have 2 hours and nothing to do and need a pick me up type of thing. Basiclly this is your typical HQ Presents alpha + Virgin = Baby book, but with a certain amount of humor and a lack of some of the typical trappings that it was just great.

First off the hero actually allows the heroine to interact with a man who she has a crush on, adn while he makes it clear he's not happy about it, he doesn't start issuing royal decreas or treat the heroine like she is his property. Meanwhile the heroine is a total ditz that you can't help but like her.

I wish that the authors today (Lyne Graham included) were able to infuse some humor into their stories, it seems like the books we get now are A + B = C with no extra little sparks included.

5.0 out of 5 stars ;0), February 20, 2011
This review is from: Spanish Groom (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
Dixie Robinson has never been good at anything. She's clumsy, far too trusting and couldn't keep a job if her life depended on it. The one thing she's done right is to befriend an elderly man and keep him from being lonely. She'll do anything for Jasper, especially when he falls ill--except marry his godson. After all, Cesar Valverde doesn't even like her. But as Jasper is rushed to the operating room, Dixie is rushed to the altar. Before she knows it, for Jasper's sake, she's saying "I do." Is this yet another mistake, or the smartest thing Dixie has ever done?

I love this book I remember reading it a long time ago I still have my Lynn Graham books that I have kept and collect. Good read. It's her typical male and female characters.
