All of the music on this disc was recorded for Columbia Records between 1964 and 1970 for release on three different LP albums. These are those albums (and I've had them all for 35 years):

COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESENTS JOHN WILLIAMS (1964)
VIRTUOSO MUSIC FOR GUITAR (1965)
JOHN WILLIAMS PLAYS SPANISH MUSIC (1970)

The final thirteen tracks here are from the 1970 LP and are presented in their original sequence. That album's third and eleventh tracks, Sanz's "Canarios" and Moreno-Torroba's "Madronos" respectively, are missing. Otherwise, JOHN WILLIAMS PLAYS SPANISH MUSIC, certainly one of his greatest LPs, would have been complete on this disc.

What follows is a complete list of the Spanish and Latin American pieces included on the two earlier LPs and in the original sequences. (There is no selection on this disc from 1967's MORE VIRTUOSO MUSIC FOR GUITAR even though it had Spanish music by Mudarra and Moreno-Torroba.)

COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESENTS JOHN WILLIAMS
"Sevilla"
"Recuerdos de la Alhambra"
"Fandanguillo"
"Soleares"
"Rafaga"
"El Testemen de Amelia"
"Scherzino Mexicano" (Ponce - not on this disc)
"El Colibri"

VIRTUOSO MUSIC FOR GUITAR
"Spanish Dance No. 5"
Etude No. 8 (Villa-Lobos - not on this disc)
"Homenaje a Debussy"

Everything Spanish from the first two LPs is here together with nearly all of the 1970 LP. I miss the "Canarios" and "Madronos", but what else to omit instead? "El Testemen de Amelia"? No, it's lovely. I confess I've always been bowled over by JW's approach to Spanish repertoire. His performances are absolutely afire but he himself remains cool and detached. Perfect!

Found my copy, used, dusty, broken case, 99 cents at a Half Price Books store. Just bought it with a bunch of other unwanted CDs. I have no idea what the other CDs even were. This was a case of love at first listen - true love, lifelong love. Despite playing and listening to guitar for half my life, I had no idea one man and some nylon strings could create such a lovely flowing sound, more beautiful than a whole orchestra. I have no idea how anybody with human heart and ears could be unmoved by the music, but it takes all kinds - just glad I'm not one of those kinds.

This is one of those reviews where words just fall completely short of the need to foist this album onto the ears of the world. Columbia/Sony could just give this album away and then sit back, accept donations, and turn a spectacular profit. I predict that world peace would break out.

This is a disc everybody with an even faint interest in the guitar should have. You could get it just for the Valses Poeticos, one of the best performances on the guitar ever. This is a personal favorite for its combination of feeling, virtuosity and musical taste. I have played the classical guitar for over 40 years, and have an overly large collection of recordings, hundreds in fact, going all the way back to Barrios (around 1905, I believe)--so this is a comparison drawn with a wide field. Mr. Williams is a supremely gifted musician who shows how these pieces should be played. As you likely can tell, this deserves the highest possible recommendation.

Couldn't connect to the music. It didn't have a 'wow' factor. It did nothing for me emotionally or mentally. Disappointed.
