Jane Lawson takes a traditional dish and adds modern innovations, and her SPANISH KITCHEN reflects the new Spanish kitchen idea, so rather than the usual focus on paella, there are dishes here you won't find anywhere else - but based on classics. A 'Seafood Fideula' thus mirrors paella but is made with noodles, and a 'Shrimp Tortillas with Herbed Yogurt' reflects Moorish influences. Color photos and dishes which are surprisingly easy to prepare with familiar ingredients make this a winning pick for any ethnic cookbook collection, while the focus on innovations offers up something different to cooks who already own Spanish cuisine guides.Diane C. More modern than I'd like,

This book was a very cheap purchase...it was less than 2 dollars used. However, I don't find it to be a very useful book for really cooking Spanish food. It's written by an Austrailian who travelled around Spain. It's not traditional Spanish cooking, and it doesn't try to be, but it has recipes that blend a lot of other cooking techniques together. I'd call the recipes "Spanish Influenced" and that isn't what the book would offer from the cover and title. It will probably go out the door quickly, since I own a lot of cookbooks, and I won't miss it.
