Review

A colorful clever collection of Spanish songs for children performed by award-winning singer and songwriter Jorge Anaya, Whistlefritz's latest release is a delightful mix of lively Latin rhythms that everyone will enjoy listening to and moving to the beat. Samba to Las Vocales (The Vowels), cha cha to Los Números (The Numbers), and polka to Que Llueva (Let it Rain). Cha, Cha, Cha makes learning Spanish exhilirating, educational, and fun! Celebrate the vibrant sounds of Spanish, at home and in the classroom! A collection of catchy, upbeat originals - plus well-known, popular favorites such as La Cucaracha, El Barco Chiquito, Los Elefantes, and Bingo. Cha, Cha, Cha is a fun, festive introduction to Spanish vocabulary. Dance, sing, and enjoy learning the letters of the alphabet, numbers, parts of the body, articles of clothing, and more. This is a dynamic, multi-sensory learning method, inspiring kids to get on their feet, clap, jump, and move while singing the days of the week. A translation guide is included, providing an easy reference for parents and teachers. A great way to expand vocabulary and become bilingual. --Dr. Toy

The Latin rhythms of this high-energy compilation of 14 traditional and original Spanish language songs will have listeners dancing and singing along. Jorge Anaya s clear and pleasant voice makes it easy to understand the Spanish lyrics. English translations for each song are included in the pamphlet, but instead of paraphrasing the songs, each song is translated word-for-word, helping listeners learn specific Spanish vocabulary. The arrangement and performance of traditional songs such as B-I-N-G-O, Los Elefantes, and La Cucaracha encourage participation. Most impressive however, are the original songs covering a multitude of topics such as Las Vocales (The Vowels), Los Meses (The Months), and Los Números (Numbers). These songs do a superb job of introducing fundamental topics while incorporating movement. For example, Los Dias de la Semana (Days of the Week) encourages listeners to raise their arms on Monday, jump on one foot on Tuesday, etc. The musicianship and the production values are excellent. It is refreshing to have a Spanish language CD for children that is fun for adults too! A great tool for preschool Spanish/bilingual story times and a welcome addition to any library's foreign language collection for young children. Caitlyn Walsh, Fayetteville Public Library, AR --School Library Journal

Winner of a 2010 Parents' Choice Awards Recommendation Cha, Cha, Cha is Whistlefritz's second CD for kids (there are also three DVDs), and with it, families can learn to cantar (sing), bailar (dance), and aprender (learn) Spanish. The CD is a lively collection of Spanish songs performed by the award-winning singer and songwriter Jorge Anaya. Children explore educational concepts through a plethora of Latin rhythms, as in the Samba of Las Vocales (The Vowels), the cha cha of Los Números (The Numbers), and the polka of Que Llueva (Let it Rain). Cha, Cha, Cha is a load of fun, and along the way it makes learning Spanish exhilarating and alive. The CD features a collection of upbeat originals, as well as popular and traditional favorites such as La Cucaracha, El Barco Chiquito, Los Elefantes, and Bingo. Children can dance and sing as they learn vocabulary words, the alphabet, and numbers in Spanish. A handy translation guide is included, which provides an easy reference for parents and teachers who may be first-time Spanish learners, themselves. --Parents' Choice Foundation

During my son's year of preschool at our local YMCA, a mother-daughter duo would come in as volunteers every Tuesday and teach the class Spanish through music. Since they always were wrapping things up around the same time that I was arriving to pick up my son, I often joined the class for the last few songs. During my son's last week of school, there was a surprise performance for the parents featuring all the songs that the children had learned throughout the year. I had known that my son enjoyed this music time, but I had NO idea that he had actually learned these songs by heart until I saw him clearly singing along to (pretty much) every word! I myself speak French and Italian fairly well, as well as enough Finnish to manage, but I have never managed to learn Spanish - for some reason it never clicked with me like other languages have. After seeing my son demonstrate an affinity for the language through music, I decided to get the CDs that the volunteers used in the classroom and this was one of them. It's one of my favorites - the vocals are very clear and easy for the beginner (child or adult) to catch onto, even without any prior Spanish experience (but I should make the disclaimer that we listen to these songs on repeat, and I didn't start to catch on completely until after the 20th round or so). Both of my boys love this CD, and so do I! I find that I am picking up much more Spanish through these simple songs than I ever have during previous more academic attempts.

I chose to purchase the MP3 version, but later wished I had the lyrics written out. I found that this CD has a PDF available for download with all of the lyrics and classroom style translation! Here is the link, for anyone who is interested:

I would definitely recommend this CD and others in the same line for anyone interested in learning Spanish!

Unlike some CD's, these songs are sung in an authentic Spanish accent. My child loves the upbeat tunes, and I love that he is learning proper Spanish.

My kids, ages 4 and 6, love this series of DVDs and CDs. The CDs have great, catchy tunes, and my kids have learned so much Spanish just from listening to the songs, and singing many of them. The CDs (this CD and the CD "A bailar!") reinforce much of the vocabulary of the Whistlefritz DVDs and also fill in some blanks (like the days of the week). My kids and I have been using these DVDs and CDs for a little more than six months, and my kids now have a pretty good grasp of basic Spanish. I would say they understand at least 150 everyday words, maybe more. I didn't really know how to start teaching my kids Spanish (I can speak Spanish, but I'm not a native speaker), and this series has been like a guide of what topics to introduce and what vocabulary to use. One interesting aspect is that the DVDs have a "songs" part that you can click on, so your kids can listen only to the songs if they don't want to sit and watch the whole DVD. Anyway, this CD is very good, and I'm glad I bought it. My kids (and I) are enjoying it very much! Thank you for an outstanding product!

We are use to this artist from the Whistlefritz series (which my daughter loves). I chose this one because I want to get her moving. She "dances" the entire length of the CD and has not grown tired of it after one straight week of listening to it daily. The songs are beautiful, I wish the melody would last longer (like the beginning of "Bingo" is awesome, I wish there was more music before or after the lyrics about bingo).

They lyrics are easy to follow along, great CD!

My daughter enjoys the CD and it has been a great learning tool for us to expand our Spanish vocabulary. The songs are well recorded and fun to listen to. Words are included which helps when you aren't sure exactly how to pronounce a word or what it means.

These are great songs that go along with their DVD which I highly recommend. It's great for anyone wanting their kids to learn Spanish and I have even found I'm learning from them as well.

This CD is big fun for my one year old! She dances to it, and tries to sing, too! These tunes are getting all the airtime in our house right now. The music is really beautiful, and unlike some of our kids cds, I find myself humming these songs, too. The subject matter is varied and spans days of the week, the seasons, numbers, and our favorite, vowels! These songs are popular with our nanny and her 7 year old, too, both native Spanish speakers. When I get home each day, all three are singing up a storm to these songs! This CD is a great resource for us as we try to encourage my daughter to learn Spanish. It is a nice refresher for me, too!

I bought this because I thought it had songs to teach Spanish to English speaking children, and English to Spanish speaking children.. IT DOES NOT DO EITHER. All the songs are entirely in Spanish. The only translation to English provided is in the leaflet that comes in the CD case--and even then --it is only a list of vocabulary words occurring in the songs. Double thumbs down for not even bothering to properly translate all the lyrics.

What they have done is recorded Spanish children's songs. The songs themselves are common in the Spanish speaking world, and are also widely available AND BETTER DONE BY OTHER ARTISTS. The songs are meant for teaching native Spanish speaking children things like the days of the weeks and counting skills. In my opinion, this should not be sold as a "learning Spanish" disk, because that is not what it is. It should be sold as "Spanish children's songs." The sales pitch is very misleading, for one because the song titles are listed in Spanish and English ( eg. Los vocales [The vowels]) and one reasonably assumes there will be some translation offered in the form of song, not the case! The only English is on the cd-insert, and I wouldn't call that "well translated."

As for the music itself, it is pretty poorly done. As an adult looking for a children's song that is easy listening, I was doubly disappointed. The sound is very synthesized and tin-ey. And the music itself is over simplified, screechy and repetitive. Listening to each song its entirely, just once, was unpleasant. I can't imagine having to listen to them with any frequency. Repetition in lyrics is a good thing, but that doesn't mean the music itself has to be bad.
