5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning debut book!
Spanish Magnate, Red-Hot Revenge was a magnificent debut book and if I hadn't already known it was Lynn Raye Harris first I would have thought I was reading a romance by a long published author, that's how incredibly marvellous it was.....just breathtaking!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unlikable heroine and hero
I bought this book based on the reviews here and because I liked her other book. I was looking forward to reading about a stronger heroine than I have read in the Harlequin lines. Boy did I regret buying this book. I should have known better than to buy a book based on 5 star reviews, because you never know who really wrote them.

I couldn't get thru this...

Spanish Magnate, Red-Hot Revenge was a magnificent debut book and if I hadn't already known it was Lynn Raye Harris first I would have thought I was reading a romance by a long published author, that's how incredibly marvellous it was.....just breathtaking!

Alejandro de Ramirez once a bull fighter and now a ruthless billionaire is out for revenge from his past lover Rebecca Layton. Ruthless doesn't even begin to describe him and he's now going to make Rebecca pay for what he believes she and her father took from him years earlier, a business deal which would have earned him not only millions but he would have been seen by his peers as a respected businessman. He's determined to learn the truth and insists she return to Spain and stay in his home so he can keep an eye on her.

Now out of the blue Rebecca is being summoned to Spain and not knowing the outcome or plans Alejandro has for her company, she doesn't know if she can withstand seeing her past lover again. She remembers all too well how he hurt her, how she found out while being his lover that he was to marry someone else. Now all she has is her company and he's going to take that as well? On top of everything else the past hurts, the secrets, the accusations he hurls at her, how dare he accuse her of cheating him? When she doesn't think she can stand anymore, she finds out he had a child that died?

Their time spent together was painful for them both. Each of them kept blaming the other. The attraction is so powerful and all they seem to do is continue to hurt each other. It's obvious that Rebecca hasn't forgotten at all and each day tears at her heart. But one realization becomes clear to her when she finds out he had her investigated, he didn't respect, trust or find her honourable but it's also obvious he still wanted her physically. It's very clear they still have feelings for each other and when they act on their passion its apparent emotions run deep. One also wonders what will happen next, what other obstacles will they face? The answer, a baby and a demanded marriage by Alejandro.

Author Lynn Raye Harris certainly delivered a very intense and well crafted debut book with many lessons to be learned by both Rebecca and Alejandro. Choices, for them both they realized they made the wrong ones and they should have trusted each other more no matter what the circumstances. One lesson Alejandro learned from Rebecca was that he didn't like what he saw in himself. However, the most important lesson for them both......forgiveness so they could have a life full of love and laughter.

From Lynn's website:

If you visit Lynn's website you'll see that she entered the Harlequin Mills and Boon Writing Contest and won! Here's what she says about her debut book:

"When I sat down at my computer and a man appeared. A gorgeous, arrogant Spaniard named Alejandro. And he wasn't very happy. When Rebecca Layton arrived, she realized what was wrong. Rebecca and Alejandro had a very emotional past -- and their futures were about to collide as Alejandro set into motion a plan for revenge.

I emailed my entry only hours before the deadline. A month later, I got the call that I'd won the Harlequin Presents Instant Seduction contest. I was stunned -- and ecstatic. Now, during Harlequin's 60th Anniversary year, I am so happy to be a new author and to share Alejandro and Rebecca's story with you. I hope it makes your heart pound, and I hope you race to the end of the book to find out what happens."

5.0 out of 5 stars This one's a keeper!, November 6, 2009

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Lynn Raye Harris weaves a delicious story of revenge and love amidst the backdrop of a recent takeover . . . I don't even know where to begin! First of all, the author's voice is delicious, taking me from one page to the next in a way that made me loathe to have to stop reading to answer the phone. I read this in a single sitting! Alejandro is an amazing hero. Commanding and ruthless at first, we also get to see his vulnerable side and it left me breathless and aching for him. Rebecca is a spunky heroine, one of the best I've read in Presents, and their attraction and romance, though obviously off to a rocky start (revenge is, after all, tough business), is profound and powerful enough to carry them through to the happy ending. I was cheering for them the whole time! Lynn Raye Harris, I can't wait for your next. Definitely an author to watch for!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Debut, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Spanish Magnate, Red-Hot Revenge (Harlequin Presents) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm always excited to read a new author in the Presents/Modern line. Some I love, others I'm not so keen on. Lynne Raye Harris I love! This is an unputdownable romance in the true tradition of the line with a sexy conflicted hero and a likeable heroine. This author is now on my autobuy list. I can't wait for her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spanish Magnate Red Hot Revenge was HOT, August 10, 2009

This is the first book I've read by this author and it was superlative. She did a wonderful job with this book. The hero Alejandro was just the alpha male, handsome, rich, and ready to blame Rebecca his old flame for everything that he suffered in his life as he climbed to the top. Now he was ready for revenge. Rebecca a corporate CEO who now stood to lose her company to Alejandro was great, just a tad wimpy for a CEO, but I liked her anyway. Alejandro kept blaming her and accusing her of everything from being a slut to a corporate spy but in the end everything was nicely worked out. I enjoyed it very much.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unlikable heroine and hero, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Spanish Magnate, Red-Hot Revenge (Harlequin Presents) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book based on the reviews here and because I liked her other book. I was looking forward to reading about a stronger heroine than I have read in the Harlequin lines. Boy did I regret buying this book. I should have known better than to buy a book based on 5 star reviews, because you never know who really wrote them.

I couldn't get thru this story because the heroine was weak for a big CEO type and the hero was just a jerk and blamed the heroine for the death of his daughter, because the heroine walked out on him. Now how sane is that? He also kept blaming her for everything that happens later, like trying to give bad press to sabotage his company, without investigating. In reality, he was the instigator that brought down her company by loaning money to her father, to invest in bad investments in Thailand, which his subsidary company sold to heroine's father. The heroine was no better also than to keep sleeping with the hero even when he verbally abuses her and accuses her of being a slut and all manner of other things, which she takes and keeps sleeping with him. For all the heroine's supposed worry of the job to be loss in her company, she does nothing really to try and protect those losses, and is very superficial in her cares about her company and the people who worked for her. Heroine was not believable as a CEO, running a multi-million dollar company by herself, maybe as a PA. When she gets pregnant, it all goes to the wayside and she's off to London to work.

The plot was so thinnly contrived in the conflict because everything stems from the heroine running away. She keeps running away and never stands her ground. First when she thought the hero was engaged, she never let him explain he wasn't. I can understand she was younger, but she shouldn't have been so naive, having come from the background of her ex-lover betraying her and the kind of father she had. She does it again years later when the hero accuses her of trying to destroy his company. It took him a whole month to come to the realization that it wasn't in the heroine's character. I had to skim through most of this book, so I could have missed something, but by chapter 4 I didn't care anymore and just skimmed to the end, because I hate not finishing a book.
