Great Book For Fluent Speakers,
By
This review is from: Spanish for Medical Personnel (Paperback)
I bought this book a few years ago and really like it a lot. I think the low rating it received is a little unfair since the people rating it went low just because they didn't know it is a book for people who speak pretty fluent Spanish.
It's laid out nicely based mostly on specialties and areas of the hospital. It has an excellent and wide terminology section in the back. It also presents the terminology and vocabulary in a practical, easy to remember manner by using realistic dialog between the provider/patient. I recommend this book to anyone who is pretty fluent in Spanish already. It's defiantly not a book to learn basic Spanish with.

Spanish for Medical Personnel, 6th ed. review,

This review is from: Spanish for Medical Personnel (Paperback)
This text was used for a course at a community college in Texas. Having lived on the border (and Spanish being my 3rd language), I respectfully disagree with anyone who says this book/CD is "worthless." I took the course to be able to communicate better as both a licensed massage therapist and certified pharmacy technician. My teacher was super, and I look forward to another class with her. The twenty lessons, six appendices, and both Spanish-English and English-Spanish vocabulary lists, cover almost every medical situation one can imagine, from emergency room to diabetic dietary consult. Por favor,¡estudie más!

I always try to save money buying books for school, and opt for used books if I can, but do not buy this book if you need to access online sources for a class like the HLC Learning Center assignments of the e-book. I paid $60 used for this book, and had to buy the passcode seperate for $100 after I realized I needed it for class or would get a 0% for all my online assignments. The book brand new and the passcode together I think might be less than $100, so don't waste your time and money buying a used book, its worse in the long run!

Basic- but too repetitive for more advanced,

The vocabulary is appropriate, but the exercises are a bit mundane and simply regurgitation of the initial readings at the beginning of each chapter. I think it may be good if you are a clinician looking for more basic Spanish, but if you have any background in Spanish, I think it could be a bit too simple for you.... I used this for the "advanced" medical Spanish course at the hospital I work at, and it did need to be supplemented with other handouts, grammar rules, etc.

Medical info for Spanish speakers,

This review is from: Spanish for Medical Personnel (Audio Program CDs) (Audio CD)
These CD's are USELESS. I'm not sure who could benifit from buying this. There is no English spoken. You will have no idea if this is even Medical spanish unless you are already fluent in medical spanish. I speak a little spanish and was pissed that I wasted my time and money on these CD's. After going through the first CD I fast forewarded every CD just to see if maybe more was said later, but no. There is no explination in English of what is being said on the CD's.
DON'T WASTE YOU'RE MONEY. If you really want it...you can buy mine.

Not for the Spanish beginner,
This review is from: Basic Spanish for Medical Personnel (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
I speak Spanish, and my nurse is taking a course in medical Spanish using this book. She does not speak Spanish, and I have been helping her get through this book. She is having a tough time, as the book assumes at least a familiarity with Spanish. I ended up giving her my daughter's children's books in Spanish, which seems to be more helpful.
This is also not a book you can reference when needed.

The textbook is in very good condition. There is no bending or torn pages. However, there is a little writing on some of the the pages. Other than that, it's perfect.
