Energeticus says:
Castilian is a form of Spanish originating from the Castille region of Spain. As it is spoken by the majority of Spaniards nowadays, "Castilian" or "castellano" is often used simply to mean "Spanish." Spanish, like Italian, French and several others, is a "Latin" or "romance" language because it has descended from Latin, the language of the ancient Romans.

Energeticus says:
Yes, as with English, there are many versions of Spanish; but generally they can be divided between contentental "Castilian" and the kind spoken in the Americas which can be called "Latin American Spanish."
