The Deva Spark (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons/Planescape)

The Deva Spark is an adventure for the Planescape setting and is disappointing. The concept is very good, but the player characters are basically 'railroaded' into the adventure at the beginning. In fact, if the charaters are reluctant to continue, they may be magically forced to finish by the Deva. And at the end, the characters must behave inconsistantly to accomplish the final goal. Clever DMs may be able to salvage the interesting plot and make a better adventure with the idea, but it few will find it worth the trouble. Not recommended.

I converted this adventure to 3.5E recently and ran it, and we had a great time. The characters can experience a powerful monster/NPC change and develop dramatically over the course of this adventure, and they can influence and maybe be instrumental in the process. The DM needs to read the adventure very carefully for a proper setup, but the boons are plenty of great role-playing opportunities, dramatic combat, and lots of fun on a planes-spanning journey. With a little work, I think this product could make a great 4E-adventure!
