Spark and Hustle is as much about the big picture as it is the details. It's a practical, step-by-step guide to being a highly successful entrepreneur. Tory lays it all out for you, from realistic budgeting to making friends with the press. She gives you loads of real-life examples, and reminds you to allow for your own preferences, limitations, and timetables.

Three things that really stood out for me:

1. Her level-headed approach to bootstrapping. Tory's not someone to bootstrap for its own sake, but she's also not someone to spend cash just because she can. She mentions that she will often stay at a respectable but definitely not 4-star motel chain because it offers free breakfast and free business office services - both of which are often extra charges at ritzier places.

2. Her affinity for what I call getting a comrade of kick-ass. Teaming up with someone whose services complement your own is smart on so many levels! Tory explores this idea in detail and gives you a lot of food for thought. Start looking around to see who might make a great comrade of kick-ass for you!

3. Her advice and suggestions for effective networking and thinking on your feet. The mark of a true hustler! Real-world scenarios, examples from her own life - even ones that are a little humbling - it's all there, in a very smart-yet-accessible way.

(Oh - and can I just add that there's homework in this book? (I love homework!) Worksheets galore, ladies! So you can figure out your game plan as you go. And bonus: It's a really fun read!)

I highly recommend Tory Johnson's Spark and Hustle. Her new book is the real deal.
