5.0 out of 5 stars Their Enthusiasm Will Stay with You Long after the Book's End
Intrepid Herman and Cande have accomplished their dream: driving from Argentina to the Arctic Ocean in their quirky but well-loved 1928 Page-Graham automobile. The kindness and generosity of people they meet on the road are almost the norm, but there are surprises that you'll have to read about yourself. 1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this book
Most of the reviewers seem to be reviewing the *idea* of taking a trip from Argentina to Alaska in a Model T. I like that idea, too. But it needed a good editor to help it live up to its premise.

As it is, the book is virtually unreadable, both because of content (no detail is immaterial) and style (far too many words telling us what the author was thinking,...

This review is from: Spark Your Dream (Paperback)
Intrepid Herman and Cande have accomplished their dream: driving from Argentina to the Arctic Ocean in their quirky but well-loved 1928 Page-Graham automobile. The kindness and generosity of people they meet on the road are almost the norm, but there are surprises that you'll have to read about yourself. The journey is long and infused with both anxiety and joy, yet these two travellers grow up and grow into fulfilling their dream. With them, we learn so much more than just "the rules of the road." After 43,000+ miles and nearly four years, the Zapps learn to trust themselves while keeping their hearts open to the ever-changing landscape and the people they find.

And, just like the Zapps, I didn't want the journey to end.

Their travels to Asia should make another inspiring read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, September 8, 2008

Spark your Dream - is probably one of the most important books you will ever read. It is a book about, dreams, love, courage, faith, friendship and hope. Buy it, read it, love it, share it and you will want to realize your own dreams and encourage others to do the same. I have enjoyed this book so much,I read it aloud for my children, I bought it for all my friends and family. Even long after you put it down, it lives on in your heart and you keep referring to it and talking about it. It is a fabulous book.
We can learn a lot from Cande and Herman's way of looking at life and always meeting the world with an open heart and faith -they trust in the good in people and people around the world respond with compassion and love, eager to help them, no matter the walk of life be it the poorest peon in Peru or the richest businessman in USA. An important message that makes this world a better world. In our family we want to nominate the Zapps to the Nobel's Peace Price. Thank you for sharing this book with the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspirational - and hilarious!, August 6, 2007

This review is from: Spark Your Dream (Paperback)
Well, I, too, met the Zapps - on Highway 101 North in Marin County, California. I literally ran them off the road, because my husband is from Buenos Aires and I wanted to find out who these crazy Argentines were driving 35 MPH in an ancient car on a super-fast highway. They were amazing: friendly, funny, excited, and so relaxed, considering what they were accomplishing. Since then, my husband has visited them at their home in Argentina, and we have kept in touch with them as they ready themselves for their Asia tour (they are currently in Washington, and Candi is pregnant - again! - on the road). This book goes into harrowing - and, oftentimes, hilarious - detail of their first trip. Its voice is true to the Zapps' personality and outlook on life. I never read the original Spanish-language version, so I cannot compare it to this one. All I can say is, my husband read it in Spanish and I read in English, and we enjoyed it equally. It carries you away to your own dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cande & Herman can spark anybodys dream, July 19, 2007

This book is great, My husband meet The Zapps while in Florida and I did not have the chance to meet them , but after reading this book I feel that they are close friends in my heart always, Just as much as friends that I have known for years. One day I hope to meet the Zapps and talk to them more about thier adventures in the book, adn others that I'm sure they have many. It would be very difficult to cover ever detail of four years in 410 pages, But they did!! And the fact that they included the names of so many "ANGELS" that helped them along the way was amazing. This is a must read for any one who has a dream or has ever dreamed of some day accomplishing it.This is a great book and a side note just for the Zapp's "Thank you very much you are a true inspiration to my family and I! You are the true Angels of our Mother Earth. God bless you and your family and let your spirts continue to soar like the eagles of the sky"

A very enjoyable read in spite of the translation into English which lost some of the sparkle in the Spanish version. I am looking forward to the next instalment covering the Australia & New Zealand adventure

5.0 out of 5 stars Gives you faith in people, February 11, 2008
This review is from: Spark Your Dream (Paperback)
Spark your dream is the true story of two young people who traveled from Arrgentina to Alaska in a very old car. Along the way they encountered many problems, but with the help of hundreds of people in many countries they finished their journey and had a child along the way.

Good hearted people gave them food, places to stay, and helped them repair their car. Reading this excdllent book will restore your faith in people's willingness to share.

They concluded that the hardest part of this multi-year trek was getting started. That's how most projects seem to be.

Reading the book made me think that perhaps if more of us chased our dreams we would need less pills for depression and less illegal drugs to boast our happiness. Their story would make a great movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Story By Extraordinary People, January 24, 2008

Hermann and Cande Zapp have a story to tell you that will have you turning pages far past your bedtime. I met them once, years ago, in Washington DC, when they had but one small child and were on their way to Alaska from Argentina. It seemed at the time like an interesting adventure and they were an engaging pair. That was my first impression . . . until I read their book. I think you will be astonished at the tale they have to tell - a tale that is by no means ended. Write them and they will answer, from somewhere in Canada (or maybe Asia by now). Buy the book and sit down to share their amazing fulfillment of a truly "impossible dream." It is a book you will buy for friends and family, and say "you have GOT to read this!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Just GREAT, January 3, 2008
This review is from: Spark Your Dream (Paperback)
Hey Herman and Cande,

I just wanted to tell you that I finally finished your book; just now
I've read the last page. It took me a pretty long time even though I am
a fast reader. I guess I just didn't want to finish it just as you
didn't want to stop being on the road. I had a great time while reading
your book and it was always like if I was sitting in the car with you.

It is definitely one of the best books I've ever read! Not written by a
famous author but written in such a nice way of poetry, dreams and
faith. I have learned a lot from it and I just want to thank you for
writing it and say that I am very proud of you.

I wish you all the best for your future dreams and I can't wait to read
about your adventures in Asia.

Best regards,

Helge

5.0 out of 5 stars Spark Your Dream, December 14, 2007
This review is from: Spark Your Dream (Paperback)
My husband and I met Herman and Cande this past summer at the New York State Fair. We became instant friends. They are such warm, friendly and genuine people. We purchased their book and my husband read it first. He seemed to be taking a long time reading it. When I asked him why, he said "he wanted to savor every bit of the book." He didn't want it to end. I am now reading the book and I feel the same way. Their story is fascinating and extremely inspiring. It is a book I plan to share with my frieneds and family.
