Sparkle's vocals, R Kelly's writing and producing! A+,

I have to admit that I did not get this CD until after I bought the new R Kelly CD. I figured if R Kelly can put together a CD with his vocals, writing, and producing, Sparkle's CD would be the same except she would be the one singing. I have to admit for the most part, I was right. If this CD was all slow songs then it may have gotten 5 and a half stars. If it wasn't for Babyface, R Kelly would be #1 in putting together the right kind of songs for the right artist. Sparkle's best moments are on "I'm Gone", "What About", which is also on the "Belly" soundtrack, "Turn Away", "Lean On Me", and the always rememorable "Be Careful f/ R Kelly. There are only about 2 songs on the 15 song CD that I can't listen to, which is good compared to some CD's these days. Add this to your current R&B collection, along with Dru Hill, Faith, 112, Deborah Cox, Kelly Price, and yes, Mr. Kelly himself.

Diamonds Sparkle,

This review is from: Sparkle (Audio CD)
This self titled debut for Sparkle takes you through a woman's perspective within a relationship. Even with the entire album is written, produced and arranged by R. Kelly, as done with Aaliyah's debut this album is a lot more mature in its subject matters. "I'm Gone" is a story of a seven year relationship turned sour as the overpowering words lingers over the simple, yet crisp track. Sparkle attempts to understand what love is and how it could about face on "Turn Away" and "What About". The dramatic "Be Careful" featuring R. Kelly more depth and feeling with his presence as does the remake "Lovin' You". It's just as good as the original with an additional arrangement for that same classic feel. With the nearly spiritual "Quiet Place (Prelude)" and "No Greater (Prelude)" where she displays her soul it adds meaning to the direction. Moody, touching substance of this deep endeavor will require multiple repeats, "Nothing Can Compare"!
