Curious Hodgepodge but Great Songs,
By
This review is from: Sparks Ep (Audio CD)
"Sparks" is one of the better songs from Coldplay's debut album "Parachutes". It is issued here in combination with some other already-released songs in a curious hodgepodge, but the quality of the songs is never in doubt."Careful Where You Stand" was originally issued on the "Shiver" single from "Parachutes". The song starts off with Chris Martin only on accoustic guitar, and gradually giving way to additional (yet sparse) instrumentation. Chris' lyrics are ever as sensitive (for example, "I Am Cured When I'm By Your Side"). "Yellow" comes in an accoustic version, from the same British TV show that has "Shiver (Accoustic)" on the "Trouble" single. The best song perhaps is "See You Soon", which originally appeard on "The Blue Room" EP in 1999. It's an absolute gem, with Chris solo on accoustic guitar. For good measure this release also has the "Yellow" video. I'm not sure whether this was ever intended as a commercial release or whether this is just a promo release, but either way it contains some great early-Coldplay songs. You won't be disappointed.

The only thing that's good about this cd is that it's rare,

I bought this last summer because it was only 5 or 6 bucks .It's a nice EP simply because I love all the songs on it. Sparks is one of my favorite songs from Parachutes, and Careful Where You Stand and See You Soon are both some of the most beautiful songs in the world. If you can't find this EP, be sure to get both of these songs on the Brothers and Sisters EP and the Blue Room EP. The "Yellow" video is just the MTV video and it only plays at about 3x3 inches. Pretty cheap, but I guess it's cool to have the video of Coldplay's first breakthrough single for my children to watch in 25 years.

Considering that this is a promotional CD and not an official release, we can't hold Coldplay responsible for putting out a bunch of songs that not only don't represent their great music, but could also confuse newcommers. I agree with another reviewer who says the best thing about this is its "rare" condition. "Sparks" is just a common ballad that does not shine like others. "Careful where you stand" is a bit better and one of their earlier works. "See you soon" is definitely the jewel of this single, a song that can also be found in the very hard to get Blue Room EP. The acoustic version of "Yellow" is good but still doesn't compare to the majestic performances maybe some of you have got a chance to listen to in other singles. The bonus video is also a plus if you are a fan. Overall not bad, but not great either. Definitely an item for collectors and true fans only.

the new band stops now!,
This review is from: Sparks Ep (Audio CD)
is that the fave band of Justin Timberlake? the band has already to take a pause for one year until 2005! because not only the lead singer gets married buthe worries that the fans will be getting bored with them all. PS: that's why the dino hard rocking bands like Zeppelin, deep purple, uriah heep, sabbath who are still able to continue their golden ages since the last 33 years, and the fans are still loving them until today. But the new youngster like Coldplay?? they just started their career for 3 years ago?? and they want to stop now?? it is a wonderful shame!! |
