I came to Fiction Plane after being a big fan of The Police and of Sting's work. The first time I heard them, I heard some of "everything will never be ok" and at the time wasn't impressed. Then I eventually I got "left side of the brain" and it really grew on me. I love that album now, so when "sparks" came out I was excited to hear it. I disagree with one of the other reviews about the choruses being boring repeats of the title. I ordered this one from the UK because as of right now, there apparently isn't any US distribution, but it was worth it, the album is great. I now am happy to have found another band who's albums I can look forward to each time. They aren't like the police other than the fact that they are a trio. Joe's voice sounds a little Stingish, but other than that they are more modern rock and less jazz than the police. I like it.

Fiction Plane is an excellent alternative band with roots firmly in the grunge movement and, in my opinion, a dash of regge and blues. Fiction Plane always has excellent instrumentation and they continue to deliver their unique sound on Sparks. With Fiction Plane there is never a question about who you are listening to. They have 2 previous albums that are easily accessible in the US called Everything Will Never Be Okay and Left Side of the Brain. In my opinion Sparks is an album that wasn't given a fair shake in the US because right now it is only available as an import.

To give a quick run down on what to expect from this album without delving too deeply into each song. There are songs that contain staples of the Fiction Plane sound like "Push Me Around", "Denied" and "You Know You're Good". These songs are well interspersed with distinctly new sounds like those found on "Russian LSD", "Revenge" and "Tommy". My personal favorites from the album are "Zero" and "Denied". Sparks is definitely a good progression for the band and listeners after Left Side of the Brain. There are enough familiar sounds to keep you listening to the album and it introduces you to some new twists and developments from the band.

Fiction Plane does not sound like anything else you are going to find on the market here in the US and it's pleasantly refreshing.

Joe sounds a lot like his dad, but with an edge. i think Sparks will develop into a very successful group because the quality is there, lacking only experience and exposure. Check Fictionplane out on YouTube before you buy an album to make sure you like this music.

Their album "Left side of the brain" was so amazing (would give it 5 stars) that I bought "Sparks" as soon as it got out. Without listening to it first... Now I regret it.
The instrumental part seems to lack creativity. But worse happened to Sting's son lyrics. Awful choruses based mostly on the song's title endless repetition.

Ok, first of all, no I haven't heard the "album" yet (my copy is in the mail). But I have been listening to versions of some of these songs for more than a year now. Secondly, sometimes you don't NEED to hear a bands new album to know it's going to deliver. Some bands refuse to conform to the recording industry and instead deliver sincere, great and uninhibited music. And I am putting my money on these guys being just that. It does suck not knowing when or if this album would ever be released in the U.S. But I guess that comes with not playing ball with the corporate recording industry.
