Book Description

March 6, 2001
"This is the novel that a lot of us have awaited. Finally, someone has taken on the environmental extremists who would dictate (if we let them) what we think, how we live, what we can own, where we work, what we eat, what we wear, and what we drive. Spark's Tract is a thought-provoking and hilarious read."

Joseph Farah Editor-in-Chief and CEO WorldNetDaily.com

"Jack Stevens has given us a riotously funny, yet sobering, glimpse of a future that, if we are not careful, could soon be ours. Anyone who loves the earth but wants to live on it, too, must read Spark's Tract."

C.M. Starr Board of Directors California Wildlife Federation

A fine book to read and reflect upon. The buzzards were circling then. The buzzards are circling now. The question posed for the 21st Century reader is what are we going to do now?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fiction at its best, May 26, 2001

Not since Don Quixote or Animal Farm has an author so captured the essence of his time with a work of fiction. The book carefully documents the raging enviromental/energy debate in California which is a microcosm of things to come in the rest of the country.

The characters (especially the head of the California Resource Agency) seem real bacause you have met them many times before in real life. I was amazed that the author could create a captivating story while also providing loads of technical information regarding the issue of the California Delta and energy exploration.

This book explores the depths of the envormental movement through the use of articulate fictional characters that can entertain a reader who isn't interested in politics. The subtle nature of the humor and sophistication of the dialogue may cause some readers ...to not see the mocking nature of the work towards elite organizations similar to the real Club Sierra.

There is nothing cliche in this book which provides new insights into the "deep ecology" movement. The antaganists are well educated enviromentalists who are both convincing and articulate. The author traps the reader into captivating conflicts between small land owners and powerfull state officials.

I would suggest this book to anyone who ...follows the current energy debate even remotely. I expect to see this book quoted along with Don Quixote or Animal Farm as a single fictional title that so well illustrates the times in which we are all living. Regardless of your politics this book is a must read since it may likely be quoted by pundits in the future as an example of what happens when deep ecology radicals become more mainstream.

The bad news is I cannot find any other book by this author.....

Spark's Tract is a great read. Using a great sense of humor, Jack Stevens gives the reader an insider's view of the bureaucracy that often hides behind the mask of environmentalism. It gives hilarious insights into the thinking of the enviro-crats and the toll they exact with their beaucratic meddling. I think you'll enjoy it.
