Book Description

A girl who thinks she's trailer trash, a crazy dude who sings Bon Jovi and zombies

Meg Clark has turned out to be everything her father and the people of her little North Country town of Gouvernour, NY, have been saying her whole life: nothin’ but a piece of white trash. In an effort to hide her past and turn herself around, she spent her inheritance from her dead mother on the perfect little house with a white picket fence. Then something terrible happened and Meg got sent to county lockup so her fiancé, Jim, wouldn’t have to. And then everyone started waking up…dead.

Good thing escaping from County wasn’t hard. Jim told her exactly how to get free. Now Meg is running and the walking dead are following. In a last ditch effort to find weapons to protect herself, Meg finds Sparrow instead. A tall, strange man with a quirk, Sparrow has an obsession with feathers and the only goal that’s on his mind is finding an old barn on Route 37 with a snowy owl in its rafters.

Meg’s headed to Kingston, where she and Jim agreed to meet if they ever got separated. But sometimes, crossing the border brings more than just freedom and protection and safety. Sometimes it brings questions that someone like Meg would prefer not to answer. And everyone keeps asking questions, including Sparrow. He thinks she’s hiding something and he’s not impressed by her stories of the sins she’s been committing all her life. While Sparrow’s the one who’s a bit cracked in the head, it never occurs to Meg that she could be the one who’s not remembering something. Like what really happened that day she killed those seven men.

A Supernatural Suspense at 86,000 words, complete with deception, love and zombies.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice twist! November 19, 2014
By Tori
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book and I was a little disappointed when it seemed to start a little slow. I felt as if this author wasn't staying true to her abilities. Then, about a third of the way in to the book, the story line takes off like wild fire and I couldn't read it fast enough! I felt as if the characters truly developed and I wanted to know and experience more through their eyes. I was VERY disappointed when the book ended and I am certainly wanting the next part to this story as soon as possible!!

This book started as a very interesting and different kind of read then it went main stream mediocre but was still good. I would recommend this book because it will linger in your mind because it is different. I will buy more from this author based on this book. I love the book cover, it actually reflects the story very well. I can not say how many free books I have read that the covers did not represent the character(s) in the book and I have seen the same cover for more than one book by different people. Anyway, this book cover is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sparrow Man Was Just Awesome January 23, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I originally picked this book from a list of FREE books from some mailing list, I thought I was going to be reading another book about the "Zombie Apocalypse" and I was perfectly okay with that - because Zombies are kickass. I didn't expect this book to blow me away, nor did I expect it to keep me up until 5:30 AM because I just had to finish it
But it did.

I can't tell you much about what happens in the book, really, because that would be giving too much away, which would be a disservice to you because, trust me, you want to be in the dark about this book.

I loved the characters of Meg and Sparrow and was really surprised by who each of the characters really was. I loved the world and character-building just as much as the surprises that came with reading more of the book.

If you don't like reading about rape, you may not like this book - but if you do read this book, you'll realize that M.R.'s description of it isn't really graphic at all; it's just heartbreaking. The inclusion of rape just makes us feel more involved in Meg's story, where we feel more connected to her because of her pain and loss.

If you don't like swearing, just be aware that there is a fare share of that in this book; Meg has a very filthy mouth.

If you aren't too thrilled about sex-scenes, this book doesn't really delve into a lot of details where that is concerned. M.R. Pritchard kind of leaves that part up to the reader (for the most part).

I don't really have anything negative to say about this book, especially because the main things I felt while reading this book were: loss, love, surprise, anger, happiness, sympathy, and this list just kind of goes on.

My thought is that: any book that can deliver such a wide range of emotions within such a short time is well worth the time spent on reading it. The whole point of living is to experience emotions and embrace them.

Well done M.R. Pritchard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Weirdest and Best Book You Will Ever Read!! January 5, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
This is one of the weirdest books I have ever read, but was so freakin good. There were a couple of different story lines going on but they meshed together really well. It was almost like eating two different kind of foods together that when you look at it, it doesn't seem like it will go well together, but when you take a bite and the two flavors match so well together. Like cheddar cheese on apple pie or eating bacon while having a bowl of cheerios. I know this is a weird analogy, but I couldn't think of any way else to describe it.

I also enjoy that I was reading a book written by a fellow New Yorker who is not a down stater. All the places Meg and Sparrow went to, I have been there as well. It almost seemed like I was with them for the ride. I lived in Syracuse and the surrounding areas from 1990-2011 and have traveled up and down Route 81 hundred of times. The scenes that occurred in the Zoo in Syracuse were very well written, but made me a bit sad. The lions scene was heartbreaking as was the one in the aviary.

I don't want to give anything away, but everything in this book is not what it seems. What you think one thing is, isn't. More towards the end everything makes perfect sense, but still gives you that "what a weird book this was" vibe. All I can say is just read it. It's an excellent book and you won't be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected...In A Good Way December 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was asked to read and review “Sparrow Man”. This is the second book I’ve read from author M.R. Pritchard and I have to say, she’s making an awesome impression. This was a trippy, couldn’t-put-it-down read for me. I never knew what was going to happen so it kept me turning the pages into the wee hours of the morning until I was finished and wanting more. In the beginning I thought this was going to be a dystopian/zombie story but….BUZZ, I was wrong. I’m not going to share what the story actually turns into because that would just ruin the fun for you readers. I really liked Sparrow Man. He started out a little weird and quirky but even his oddities made him appealing. This story has action, mystery, some paranormal romance, and plenty of twists and turns. I give “Sparrow Man” 5/5 stars. When a book keeps me up past my bedtime it deserves high praise. I’m looking forward to this story continuing to see what happens with Sparrow and Meg. Definitely check it out.

1.0 out of 5 stars fortunately it was one of the borrowed books
If I would have known the premise of the book I would never have read it. I would have been furious if I had actually bought it, fortunately it was one of the borrowed books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good , but not great
I loved the first half of this book, and then it went in a completely different direction. It was good, I just didn't love the second half of the book.
