Book Description

Spawn October 1, 1999
It`s been nearly a year since a man, formerly one of our government`s greatest soldiers, was resurrected from the ashes of his own grave. Reborn as a creature from the depths of Hell, disfigured, homeless and alone, this new warrior now wanders the hidden alleys of new York City in search of his past life, and tries to piece together his horrific and confusing existence. With the forces of both Heaven and hell sending their won personal agents to help recruit this Hellspawn, both sides begin the quest toward the final battle of Armageddon, each hoping to win over this freshly created man whose body is nothing more than scars and torn flesh. Join Spawn as he battles those who are out to kill him while he tries to give meaning to why he exists in the first place. Through these adventures, he hopes to find out who his real enemies are, and whom he can trust; for in this world of shadow players, nothing is as it appears.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spawn Becoming Ponderous...Like A Glob Of Necroplasm, October 20, 2005

This review is from: Spawn, Book 7: Deadman's Touch (Paperback)
In the shole scheme of things, this is where Spawn is starting to lose its edge. The begining was cool and new and Marvel-less, but how many more issues can we stand where the whining thing that was once Al Simmons and is now Spawn bitches how he got shafted by Malebolgia and boo-hoo he misses the life and wife he used to have. C'mon. Play another song. Will someone change the channel. Now...in the comic book scheme of things, rehashing the original story tidbids has been widely accepted for a long, long time. (Ever read X-Men issues after Giant-Size # 1? Could they mention that Wolverine's claws are made of adamantium just one more time???) So it has been the norm in the genre....but it grows ponderous. The story (aside from all the gaps from the spin-off chronicles of the Violator, Angela, Youngbloods, etc...)begins to wane. New characters (mostly villians that seem designed straight for the McFarlane Toy line) come in for an issue or two and go just as quick. Ho-hum. Will someone call me a taxi and get me a copy of Wetworks to go? I need to leave this mess.
