5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite read, October 7, 2002

Don't let the title put you off of this book. It is a good read about the engineered death machine (human with steel bones) with the normal catch of thinking it's human (and it is) but with flashbacks. Fall of civilization, good story. Short but interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good first exposure to post-apocalyptic world, February 10, 2007

This review is from: The Spawn of the Death Machine (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this when I was 13. I've forgotten most of the titles of stories I read back then but over 30 years later I find myself both remembering the title and searching out info on the author. This is not the most complex sci-fi tale you could find but it is interesting. The main character awakes from hybernation in a near sentient computer complex and is sent out into the world to gather information. Is he man or is he machine? He slowly discovers that he is a construct of some type but determines that he would rather be man and eventually bucks his imprint to live as man and not return to hybernation. That is the beginning & end of the story. There is a great deal of interesting material in-between that I'll leave you to discover.
