About the Author

Shan Varty, director and publisher of I Speak of Africa, and a partner in Londolozi, lived for 12 years in the African Bush where she raised her family whilst being at the forefront of developing Londolozi into a world-class destination and leader in conservation development. Her deep understanding and love of the many people whose lives touched Londolozi, gave her a special insight which is evident throughout the book. Shan says "It is my hope that this book will inspire the generations of the future to work together in harmony in keeping the wild areas of Africa and its wonderful bio-diversity safe from over-development and exploitation. Shan was a founder director of Conservation Corporation, was lead presenter in the 52 part Bush School video series and was appointed a world judge of the 1994 British Airways tourism for Tomorrow awards. That same year she was a nominee for "Business Women of the Year" in South Africa. Molly Buchanan first met Dave and Shan Varty in 1990 at the inception of Conservation Corporation and was invited to write publicity material for the young company. Born in Durban, Molly has traveled widely in sub-Saharan Africa and has developed a love and affinity for the wilderness which has influenced the course of her career. Fifteen years ago she started a public relations consultancy and a few years later, in partnership with Peter Johnson, she launched a publishing company. Their 1998 calendar was awarded the top calendar of the year by the US based Calendar Marketing Association. I Speak of Africa is her first book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The pictures and the words describe Londolozi beautifully., May 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: I Speak of Africa - The Story of Londolozi Game Reserve (Hardcover)
I visited Londolozi in 1997. I ordered and received the book almost a year after I returned home. It captured everything I remember from the animals and the landscape to the wonderful people themselves. I am able to pick up the book, now 2 years later, and still get the same feeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars captures the experience we had at Londolozi beautifully, December 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: I Speak of Africa - The Story of Londolozi Game Reserve (Hardcover)
After visiting Londolozi and purchasing this book there, it was wonderful to learn about the background and evolution of this very unique game reserve from the founding family. This book is a must for those planning a trip to the "bush" as well as for those fortunates that have been to Londolozi or anywhere to share space with the magnificent animals of the transvaal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, August 19, 2010
This review is from: I Speak of Africa - The Story of Londolozi Game Reserve (Hardcover)
In addition to being a beautiful book with gorgeous photos of Transvaal bush wildlife, this book is inspiring. What the Varty family has created at Londolozi and other game reserves and surrounding villages is nothing short of visionary. Theirs is a model that works.
