You are looking at the 2 CD introduction (i.e. the first two CDs), not the full 8 CD set. Thus, I'll try only to talk about the first two CDs. It's absolutely amazing how much one can accomplish in two hours. Will you be fluent? Ha. Conversational? No. But will you be able to get by? Yes! And that is quite an accomplishment after only two short hours. You're not just memorizing phrases. You will learn how the language works so that you can put together your own phrases. All the claims - no memorization, no homework, et cetera - are true. I suggest that you don't waste your money buying the 2 CD set. You will end up buying the full set anyway, so you may as well buy it from the start.

After reading other reviews of Speak French with Michel Thomas and noting the good rating, I decided to purchase Speak French with Michel Thomas.

This cd package does deliver! You will begin to "think" and "speak" in French.

His techniques are extremely helpful to anyone who has tried relentlessly to find a "technique" for learning French. The techniques guide to step-by-step to speaking French.

I was so pleased with learning with Michel Thomas that I have purchased his deluxe edition.

One note is you will need a supplement for this cd package: grammar french book and some other beginners' french package.

I bought Michel Thomas' "Speak Italian" two years ago. I knew not a word of Italian and was amazed that I was putting together fairly complicated sentences within a half hour. I'm going to France and wanted to brush up on my French, so bought the 2-CD set.... I didn't realize how much I knew. If you have studied French, I would advise buying the extended course. This one was a bit too easy for me, but it was still very helpful. His method of teaching really works. The only drawback is that the woman on the CD is extremely irritating.

I wanted to learn enough practical French to negotiate my way around Paris for a week. Thomas' method worked amazingly well as he spends less time on the situational phrases ("At the Airport", "At the Hotel") that most language courses seem to focus on, and more on general vocabulary and structures that were easily adapted to any situation. I didn't expect to be fluent (and I wasn't) but I could be understood and I could generally understand what was being said to me. The female student that he used was truly irritating, but apart from that, I cannot recommend the 8 CD set highly enough.

I am terrible at learning languages. I bought everything I could find and was working hard at learning French. I was picking up a few words here and there but really getting nowhere.
Then I listened to Michel Thomas 2 CD pack. Ugh, his voice made me nuts...BUT I kept listening to it..and lo and behold started learning French.

I am so amazed at how much I learned (so fast..after struggling and struggling before) that I am ordering the 8 cd pack....and can't wait for it to arrive. In spite of his weird voice, he is a great teacher...he explains it in a way that you can remember it and he SIMPLIFIES it. Now, I will worry about reading and writing it later.... :-) Just being able to speak it is such a relief...and I think over time...I will be able to read it and write it.

I have studied languages throughout my life. This is the best language learning system I have ever come in contact with. I would recommend it for anyone who would like to learn a language and have the confidence to use it with native speakers.

I have never found learning a new language so much fun! I admit the woman on the recording can be a little annoying, I keep screaming at my computer hoping she would get the right answer faster, but Michel Thomas does make speaking French so much easier - you learn it at such ease, and after the first CD recording, I found myself smiling feeling such a sense of accomplishment. I strongly recommend Michel Thomas' teaching method recordings. You will be addicted to learning with Michel, and the next thing you know, you are speaking French! I say - absolutely worth it!

yes, French does make sense. At least now that someone has pointed out what others have not. Mr. Thomas teaches that French isn't as "foreign" as it seems. Words that we hear everyday in English are the same words in French. It's all in how you say it (and spell it). Words (mainly the verbs) that I had a hard time understanding, now make sense. I do recommend this CD set if you want to try to parlez en francais. I am going to buy the deluxe set. I just wish that he had a set that could take me to an intermediate-advance level.

I just finished the two set CD of Speak French with Michel Thomas. Though the CDs were extremely good, very interesting and informative, i was not sure what i had learnt and how and where do i apply my skills. I did not even know how to ask any one "What is your name ?". There were quite a few basic things that should have been taught which would have helped me atleast start a conversation in french with a complete stranger.

But all said, if you want to understand the language in a manner whiich is fun and easy, go for this. That is why i am going for the full set to check out if anything comes out of it.

I really enjoyed these CDs. Once I got into the rhythm of Mr. Thomas' teaching, I found them very easy to listen to, and very helpful. His manner is very relaxed, and that just makes learning easier. I had one year of conversational French in high school, but that was a loooong time ago. After these 2 CDs, I feel like I could at least order something in a cafe and inquire about a hotel reservation. Before I bought them, I saw a couple of other reviewers say just skip this set and buy the 8 CD set. I wish I had, now. I want more! But if you know you just want some bare basics at a reasonable price, buy this set. I also went to the library and borrowed some other French tutorials - they were awful, especially after this one.
