1.0 out of 5 stars Out of date
This book should be updated or taken off the market. All examples are way out of date - from technology to marketing to today's audience. Very little value. Ironically the aurhors encourage you to keep current and they are over a decade behind. A fluff piece that promotes their speaker's bureau.

No one gives more than Dottie and Lilly Walters. These great speakers are the most generous people in the business. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for all speakers, March 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Speak and Grow Rich (Paperback)
This book has helped me so tremendously that I am having a hard time finding the words to write. It's a very well organized book with concrete and diverse information. After reading this book I realized I needed to do a whole lot to revamp my website and marketing materials. It helped me to think even more like a speaker. Being new to this industry I have ordered several books to learn how to market myself better as a speaker...this was one of the best books to do that. Dottie and Lilly really speak "real". They give it to you straight. The book is not just a bunch of fluff and "big stars", but they break down every detail of the industry and give you concrete reasons why something will work or hasn't worked. I value their book because they have worked in the industry for a long time. This book has basically been my "speaker coach".

5.0 out of 5 stars This launched my career!!!, December 4, 2004

Lee Fuller "Reviresco" (Dallas, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Speak and Grow Rich (Paperback)
Speak and Grow Rich is key for any speaker who is serious about the business of speaking. I continue to get revelation each time I refer to it. The author is clearly concerned and interested in the success of everyone who reads it. My career as a speaker would be, at best, mediocre without the valuable insights, suggestions, warnings and techniques shared within. Speak and Grow Rich provides a service to us in the field so we can better serve those we speak to. Buy this book and study it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Guide to Speaking FOR MONEY NOT FREE, July 19, 2003
This review is from: Speak and Grow Rich (Paperback)
Are you a great speaker? Do you shine at Toastmasters or when you do a corporate presentation. Do you have a life-story to share or a cause that you believe in enough to want to influence other people with your thoughts? Then you may be a candidate for being a public speaker. Dottie is the BEST. I took her workshop several years ago and within days got my first $$$ speaking engagement. Why speak for free when you can get money for sharing your stories? Don't need the $$$ -- then give it to a charity or start a nonprofit foundation. What's so great is that Dottie and Lillet (her daughter) are in the trenches day after day helping and guiding some of the top speakers in the world create a business, not just a speech. She shows you contracts, forms, and reference material necessary to being an 'infopreneur' in the 21st Century. Attend one of her regional workshops if you wish. ......

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Best Public Speaking Guide For Proactive Promotion", June 4, 2001

This review is from: Speak and Grow Rich (Paperback)
Dottie Walters and her daughter Lilly are the gurus of the public speaking business and they have created a wonderful book; and I dare say it is the best book on how to promote yourself as a public speaker. Public Speaking is a profession of tremendous integrity, so who better to write about it than Dottie. Dottie is one of my success mentors and this book has played a huge role in helping me to be a successful speaker and consultant. Because of her I am a better PROMOTER of myself.

Dottie Walters has been a proactive promoter of the Speakers Bureau Business and was the founder of Association of Speaker Bureau Owners. Dottie covers every aspect of the speaking business as a proactive thinker, using smart thinking, system thinking, futuristic thinking, and positive thinking. Dottie is the hallmark of a proactive thinker because she is highly motivated, achieve her dreams, recognizes opportunities, overcomes failures, has exceptional values, and promots good change. If you are truly seeking the kind of success and abundance that makes your life 100% livable - you must get this book. Some of the ideas she promotes are found in SUCCESS BOUND, another book built on learning how to live a proactive life by eliminating the fear of failure.

I recommend that you get Speak and Grow Rich, even if Public Speaking is just a spark of an idea in your mind. It will begin to give you the ability to see that with the right topic and the enthusiasm that comes with a definite major purpose, that you can be a confident public speaker too.

5.0 out of 5 stars You are the best Dottie!, October 20, 2001
This review is from: Speak and Grow Rich (Paperback)
Speak and Grow Rich is positively phenomenal! The wealth of knowledge this book has brought me goes beyond words. After reading it, I was able to embark upon new challenges that have brought a sense of completeness to my life. I was homeless at 17 and I retired at 26! This book has enabled me to share my story and inspire people all over the world.

I pray that the book I've written continues to bring the same kind of value to its readers as Dottie and Lilly's book has done for me. I recommend Speak and Grow Rich to any one who has a strong message to deliver that needs professional polish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Abundant Options to Profit at the Podium, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Speak and Grow Rich (Paperback)
Anyone who's ready to share their expertise on the plateform in small and large settings will find a wealth of resources in this book.

If you're just getting started, Speak and Grow Rich will overwhelm you with revenue opportunities. What I suggest, as a veteran speaker, is that you have pad and paper by your side to list the numerous products you can realistically create to start your speaking career and boost sales.

Every product mentioned in the book won't be beneficial for you, but the ones that link you with your audience will create untold revenue.

I found myself skimming some of the chapters, and that's only because I've been speaking for more than 10 years, so I know and practice much of what the authors suggest. However, I poured over the details in chapters 3 and 9.

The information on learning to craft contracts so that you make money from recordings and don't give away this intellectual property is priceless whether you're just starting or a long-time speaker. This tutorial was eloquently explained and not to be overlooked.

Speak and Grow Rich will help you to trade in your stage fright for bountiful checks you can bank on.
