Another exciting ride,
This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Allison Brennan does it again with a great suspense story involving police detective Carina Kincaid and Sheriff Nick Thomas. Carina suspects Steve Thomas brother of the Sheriff in the hideous murder of an 18 year old girl. Nick is determined to prove his brother did not kill the girl. Sparks fly as the search for the serial killer continues. Eventually they work together in more ways than one.
This is a must read for anyone who likes a suspense story that will make you want to leave the night light on. I can't wait to read the next two books in the trilogy, "See no Evil" and "Fear no Evil." They will be coming out one at a time in the next couple months. I also suggest that if you have not read her hit trilogy "The Prey" "The Hunt"and"The Kill" from last year you do so. They were great and definitely worth the time and money.

EXCITING SUSPENSE THRILLER,
By
This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Carina Kincaid is a police detective faced with a grissley murder. The young co-ed was found with a garbage bag over her face, a vile word scratched into her skin and she had been raped with various objects. Carina searches diligently because she fears this might be a serial rapist. The girls boy-friend is much older than her and becomes the main suspect. Steve Thomas has a brother who is a sheriff and he quickly calls Nick for help to prove he did not kill his girl friend.
Nick Thomas is recovering from an attack by a serial killer. he still suffers with painful legs and knees from the attack. His mental state is not that great either. But naturally he comes to the defense of his older brother. He and Carina hit it off and she comes to realize she probably needs his help as another body quickly turns up. The relationship between the brothers and the developing attraction between Nick and Carina is great. The suspense is heavy, and the delusions of this murderer are just plain scary. They quickly realize Steve is not involved but the murderer is not going to stop until they stop him. Wonderful read, kept me wondering the whole time. You have to read it if u are looking for a great suspenseful adventure.

A thrilling romantic suspense...,
This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Detective Carina Kincaid has never seen a more horrific murder than that of college student Angie Vance. Gruesomely killed after being raped for two days, Angie's body was discarded on a San Diego beach. Carina immediately looks to Angie's ex-boyfriend, Steve Thomas. While he seems like a perfectly nice guy on the outside, Carina knows that looks can be deceiving. She is immediately suspicious of Steve. Not only is he much older than 18 year older Angie, but he also had a restraining order taken out by the victim, two days before she was kidnapped. When Sheriff Nick Thomas, Steve's younger brother shows up to support Steve, Carina is immediately attracted to the rugged Sheriff. When Carina realizes they may have a serial killer on her hands, she is grateful to have Nick around, as his knowledge may prove invaluable to the case.
Nick Thomas has his own demons to fight. After almost dying at the hands of the Bozeman Butcher, Nick is scarred. Not only physically, but emotionally as well. Losing the woman he loved, on top of having to watch a woman be raped repeatedly, Nick knows he'll never be the same. When Steve calls to ask Nick for help, he doesn't hesitate. While he does want to help his brother, Nick also has an important decision to make; whether or not he should run for re-election. Arriving in San Diego, Nick is immediately drawn to the prickly Detective. Brennan does a fine job of combining romance and suspense in this top notch thriller. Giving the reader insight into the killer's mind, you will immediately be drawn into the book. As Carina and Nick race against time to stop a killer that escalates by the day, they are both drawn to each other more in a way that is completely unexpected to them both. Don't miss this engrossing novel.

A good mix of romance and supense.,

This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Actually, a good mix all together. The murders were just gruesome enough to intrigue and upset you and make you want them solved. Just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, and still be believable. And just enough romance to round the book out. I will definitely read her next book as soon as it is released. This one was worth the money.

I loved Brennan's first trilogy, so I expected nothing less from Speak No Evil. I was not disappointed. It was suspenseful and very creepy. The main characters were real and likeable.
The only negative thing I can say about it, is Carina was a little flat at first, not a lot of personality and the chemistry between her and Nick was not as sizzling as her main characters in her first trilogy. On the other hand, there was a lot of police procedure in this one and that didn't leave a lot of room for personality to stand out. But her relationship with her family was real and a good set up for the remaining two books in the series. This is a must read. I am anxiously looking forward to reading See No Evil and Fear No Evil.

Extremely Graphic,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought this book would be like Mariah Stewart's trilogies, which is why I bought it. While it was very well written, I thought it was way too graphic, even for someone who loves mystery/suspense novels like I do. I won't be passing it on to my mother and grandmother as I usually do when I find a new author in this genre.
I also thought the romance between the main characters seemed forced and rushed, which made it not very believable.

action-packed police procedural romance,
This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Eighteen year old college student Angela Vance went with him because she thought he was safe but at his place he tied her to his bed, glued her mouth shut, tortured, raped and killed her. He dumped her body and when the police find her they have no evidence linking her to a killer except the man that reported her missing. Thirty-nine year old Steve Thomas who had sex with the young woman knew something was wrong when she didn't write in her online diary describing in graphic detail her sexcapade.
Steve immediately calls his brother sheriff Nick Thomas of Bozeman, Montana asking him to come to San Diego to help him. He arrives and meets with the sexy lead detective Carina Kincaid who takes an immediate liking to him. When another college teen is killed in the same manner and evidence points away from Steve, Nick volunteers his services because he has been on the receiving end of a serial killer's actions. As the two law enforcement officials work together they find themselves falling in love but their relationship has to be put on the back burner because another college student is killed and shortly thereafter a fourth girl is kidnapped. The killer is calculating and if he isn't caught many more lives will be lost. This police procedural romance is full of action and gives the reader an interesting look at an ongoing investigation. Allison Brennan has a distinct voice that lends itself to creating characters that are dedicated people trying to do the best they can. The protagonists look at themselves as ordinary people trying to do a job but they are heroes because they risk their lives to save others. The fast paced story keeps readers immersed in the tale until the last page is turned. Harriet Klausner

Loved the book, hated the crude language,

This book was suspenseful, kept you guessing till the end. I love Allison Brennan's books, have read them all so far. The only thing that I really don't like is the crude language, I think it would still be spine tingling if it was toned down a bit. This book was a nice mixture of suspense with a little romance included. Hopefully the next one will have a little less of the crudeness.

This review is from: Speak No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Detective Carina Kincaid finds herself faced with a particularly grissly murder when she is brought to the scene to investigate Angie Vance's death. Her search immediately turns her toward Angie's ex-boyfriend, Steve Thomas, who becomes their prime suspect.
This induces Steve to call his brother, Sheriff Nick Thomas from Montana, in to help him clear his name. While Carina and Nick are delving into the online world of MyJournal pages and secrets, another girl is murdered. Followed by a third. They realize they are dealing with a serial killer, one who loves his work, and the race is on to try and find him before he kills again. Allison Brennan writes suspense like NO one else. Her characters stay with you, even the killers since she does such an amazing job of getting into their heads. Speak No Evil is the first in a series of three. It offers the best in suspense thrillers, with just the right amount of romance to add to the story. A terrific read. |
