Speak & Sing Chinese w/Mei Mei

My daughter and I listen to this cd in the car while out and about. We both love listening to the songs, repeating after Mei-Mei saying the words in Chinese. My daughter( 28 months old) actually asks to listen to it.... " Chinese" please!

The cd starts out with teaching you how to count to 10, next are 2 songs Little Ducks & Where are my Friends. Next you'll learn names for some of your body parts and then you sing the 1st verse of " Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes". The rest of the cd alternates between learning & repeating what Mei-Mei has said and then a song. My daughter loves the Two Tigers Song...which is strange because 1 tiger has no head and the other tiger no tail.

The Cd is very much the same as the VHS or DVD of Speak & Learn Chinese With Mei-Mei. Mei-Mei's voice is clear and easy to understand as well as the children who are also on the cd. I just can't say enough nice things about this CD. You won't be sorry you purchased it!

Our four year old wants to listen to this cd and watch the Mei Mei dvds continually. She is absorbing the language from these products, which are relatively well produced and affective compared to the other Mandarin products available. There is no way we'll learn Mandarin like our daughter, but my wife and I find our selves humming these tunes, even when the cd and dvds are not playing, and it is driving us crazy.

I got this CD for my daughter because I read all the good reviews about it. It is overall a very good Chinese learning material. Lots of fun songs and the arrangement is not too stiff or boring. But I am not crazy about the teacher's singing voice, not very soothing and can be annoying to some people, thus the four star rating.

I got this CD to hear some traditional kids' songs and because of all the positive reviews, however, I was seriously disappointed. First of all, the audio quality is terrible and Mei Mei, while she seems to be a very nice person, has a dreadful singing voice that I simply can't stand. It ruins the songs, unfortunately. Second, the Chinese 'lessons' are extremely simplistic and not for kids who already speak any Mandarin. You learn to say a few common words, but this is no more speaking Chinese than just saying 'Bonjour' and 'Au Revoir' is speaking French. If you actually expect your child to become fluent in Mandarin (like my son, who is in an immersion program) I believe this CD is actually counterproductive since it asks the child to first think of the words in English.

I gave this two stars since the booklet that comes with the CD is actually very helpful and includes all the words to the songs in pin yin.

Our daughter loves to sing along to this CD while riding in the car. She's learning the words much faster than we thought she would. We have two cars and found ourselves moving it back and forth from one car to the other, so we bought a second copy. The songs are quite charming. And the lessons very practical.

I love this CD! The tunes are great and easy to sing. I took a few years of Chinese in school and really like how the booklet with the CD, gives the english words, pin yin and characters. My daughter is 11 months old, so she doesn't sing yet, but I think she enjoys the music and having her mommy belt out the tunes! Great find!

My two and half years old daughter just can't have enough of this DVD. She watches it everyday since we got it a month ago. At first, she just watched it quietly. I was worried if this is too advanced for her. She also listens to the Sing With MeiMei VCD in the car. But then one day all of sudden she can almost sing Where are my Friends completely. Once she is not shy or scared to sing along with MeiMei, she quickly learned to sing A Family of Ducks, Pull the Carrot, Two Tiggers.....We also have MeiMei's Play and Learn DVD - NOT RECOMMENDED! It was MeiMei's early work, not fun at all. But this Dance and Learn DVD and the VCD are the best combination to teach your child Chinese.

Sound quality is not good and the singing voice is not pleasant to listen to. Content is ok. My child do pick up a few words from it.

Good songs aimed at under fives. Text includes Chinese characters, transliteration plus a translation so excellent for language students.

Very clear and good intro to Chinese through repetition and music. My only problem is MeiMei's voice--great songs but her voice is grating. Very simplistic and a good first Mandarin CD.
