5.0 out of 5 stars "Speak for the Trees", November 23, 2009
This review is from: Speak For The Trees (Hardcover)
"Speak for the Trees" speaks volumes with a 1-2-3- punch of truth. First the layout of the book is rich and visual with beautiful and powerful art work. Laura Scandrett's peaceful haunting "Plum Tree in Bloom" is truly a silent witness to the life it surrounds. Second, the artist gives us a peek into his thought, progression or inspiration into his art work. Charles Lindsay a fly fisherman takes us into his waking dream of trees intercepting his cast and the smell of ponderosa pine and butterscotch on a tree laden stream. The trees are speaking of the prevailing winds, woodpecker bouts, lightning strikes and forest fires past. And the third part of this jewel rewards us with quotes from a person who has inspired the artist. Henry David Thoreau, Soul Trees cultivate the tree which bears fruit in your soul.
Enrich your journey and spend sometime with "Speak for the Trees" and you to will be grateful for the awakening with in yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you. We can hear them now., January 19, 2010

This review is from: Speak For The Trees (Hardcover)
This book is a collector's item and a true treasure. Not only has Andria Friesen gathered together a vast array of the world's top artists to share how trees have inspired their art, the proceeds also go to benefit Findhorn Gardens in Scotland and Esalen in California. The book would be worth it for the art alone; it is stunning and evocative of the spirit of trees. Each artist has written a passage on the meaning of trees in their own life and we also found great delight in the quotes that each offered from a famous source that has inspired them. Every page is a surprise of visual and mental beauty; images and words that inspire, soothe, and reveal to us how much trees have to tell us.
Speak For The Trees would be ideal to have on your coffee table for a year, to slowly savor the full range of impact this book has on so many levels. We gave it as a gift to our mother and she treasure's it. This book truly speaks for trees, a voice that has always been there, but not always heard. Friesen has given us a most inspiring doorway into soul and spirit of our arboreal buddies. We hear you now.

This review is from: Speak For The Trees (Hardcover)
This is a marvelous book of inspiration in awe and appreciation of these, the largest living beings on our planet. Underneath the surface, all our roots mingle. We're standing on harmony. The trees know this.
The artists really created their best work for this project. The pages crackle with wonder at the many ways inventive minds and creative hands show us how to see and feel the magnificence of a tree. A poignant, soulful work. A joy to savor.

This review is from: Speak For The Trees (Hardcover)
This book reminds me of one of those music albums we used to discover back in the analog days, in which every song was absolutely perfect. "I Speak For The Trees" is filled with beautiful art, beautiful commentary, and beautiful insights. You can tell it was made with love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speaking For Trees, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Speak For The Trees (Hardcover)
Artists and trees--what could make you feel more human? This book captures visually the essence of why we are all consumed with protecting and respecting the planet we live on. I really enjoyed seeing each artist portray one of the real foundations of our lives. Trees are the life and breath for all of us and now I really know what that looks like.

Beautiful books are everywhere and I am a great fan. But this book says something I haven't considered before all in one place. It is a joy to spend time with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treemendous!, December 10, 2009
This review is from: Speak For The Trees (Hardcover)
Flipping through it for the first time each page was so beautiful that it made me excited to see what I would turn to next. The diversity of the art (painting, photography, metal and glass sculpture, etc.) and artists included is very cool, especially since the focus of the subject matter for all is trees. Not only is the content beautiful and inspiring, but the cover, jacket and packaging are all something special. Excited to have a copy and I will cherish this book for a long, long time.

"Speak for the Trees" is a book about devotion made with energy and love. It shows us many ways in which the inspiration of each artist and their chosen tree gives us a window into the divine. It brings us to "listen to the voice of nature," as artist Forrest Moses writes.

This is a precious book. Keep it near you and it will give you many gifts. I highly recommend it.
