Product Description

The SpeakerCraft tradition of innovative design, combined with one of the most extensive engineering efforts in this industry's history, has led to the creation of the patented AIM series of fully directional in-ceiling loudspeakers. Each model can be entirely pivoted towards the listener while remaining discretely recessed behind a flush-mounted grille. If listening position or tastes change, the speaker can be easily aimed in another direction with a simple push of the hand. Pivoting and Rotating 7" Resin Reinforced Fiberglass Cone WooferPivoting 1" Silk Dome TweeterTimbre-Matched to All Two Series SpeakersFront Mounted Treble Equalization SwitchThe AIM7 Series features fully pivoting woofers and independently pivoting tweeters, allowing the entire speaker to be aimed toward the listener. Speakercraft was the first company to introduce a pivoting speaker. They patented the design and will defend their right to be the only company to offer their dealers this superior technology.SpeakerCraft's AIM technology was first utilized in a 6" ceiling speaker. The ability to focus the sound toward the listening area was instantly recognized as a tremendous advantage and the popularity of these speakers once again confirmed the fact that SpeakerCraft is the industry leader. After years of dominating the in-ceiling category, our engineers revisited the original AIM series with the goal of squeezing even more performance out of the 6" format. The result of this effort is the AIM7 series.

We used this speaker to replace the center speaker in our home theatre system. It has always been a problem to hear voices, which were slightly muffled and muddy because of its position below the television (the only way to make it centralized), and because of the surround sound, a 5:1 plus subwoofer. You can hear the movie next door while not being able to hear many voices in a movie. This speaker has produced a noticeable clarity to the speech track in broadcast programs and in digital movies and even in the treble of music.

Another interesting part is that I am not aware that the speaker is mounted in the ceiling. The voice track images perfectly. It sounds like the speech is coming from the actors themselves. I was worried that it would sound separate from the surround sound environment but it has integrated perfectly.

This speaker is a two way speaker and the tweeter can be aimed specifically to optimize the sound directly toward the listeners. The higher number speakers in this series of speakers have built in subwoofers. The 3 and 4 way speakers will have more adjustability - for the treble and the bass. This speaker has minus 3 decibel neutral and plus 3 decibel adjustment control. I've never seen a speaker that allows you to adjust the decibel levels of internal components. It is part of a system that allows you to fine tune the system to the environment.

Quality of construction is excellent. It is beautifully engineered and the assembly is flawless. After cutting a hole in the ceiling the speaker inserts into the hole and a very clever system activated by four screws accessible from the front draws clamps down to the ceiling material and secures the speaker to the ceiling. It was easy and it was flawless.

I got one of these speakers to try out and was impressed by how well constructed the speaker was. An innovative pivoting and rotating woofer is backed by some heavy-feeling impressively intricate hardware that impress with their looks as well as sound.

The limitation of in-ceiling speakers is that the sound isn't focused toward your ears, as is preferable for higher tones, and this product solves that problem well. It still sometimes feels like the sound is coming from "up" instead of "behind", but at least you can aim the tweeters to minimize the effect.

Verified Purchase
Purchased six speakers for three zones in my basement (bar, pool table, and dance floor) and I can honestly say this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Speakers arrived on-time and in perfect condition. Instsllation was very easy. It took me about two hours to install all six speakers. The speakers look absolutely beautiful and sound like the higher end speakers such as B&W. BTW, I am powering the speakers with te Denon 1912 receiver and love the combination. I wold highly recomend these speakers if you are willing to pay a few extra bucks for high-end quality sound at a resonable price. Enjoy!

Easy to install, if you have some basic handyman skills. A bit hard to do in existing construction (you need to run the wires and deal in many cases with insulation). May not work well for renters.

The nice thing about these in ceiling speakers is that they don't take up any floor or shelf space. They are white, so they match most ceilings. The sound is clear, and you can even direct the tweeter to some degree. Comes with a nice white grille too, so it doesn't look like a speaker (like in the photo) if you don't want it to.

One thing that's a bit confusing from the order page. There is only one speaker in the box, even though it is labelled as "fully pivoting high fidelity in-ceiling loudspeakers".

Just take a look at the pictures, judging by their looks, they're already awesome! Now add to that great looking body, loud and clear sound and you have a winner.

One great advantage that you get from ceiling speakers is that you no longer have to deal with trying to hide speaker boxes behind sofa's, no cables running across walls or around the carpet lining, all you see is the nice speaker pointing straight at you, it just doesn't get any cleaner than that!

Setup is as easy as it can be, keeping in mind that you will have to cut a few holes on your walls or ceiling and run the cables from behind, this is simple enough, once you're done setting up the speakers, you can then point the tweeter to any part of the room you want to focus the sound to.

I tested the speaker on my Onkyo HT-RC180 and it sounded great, voices were loud and clear, it gave me some nice bass feedback and it actually sounded better then my current speaker set up! I am honestly thinking of investing on the whole set to run a clean, loud and good looking system in my living room.

This speaker has made me wish I had the ability to put these in every room in my house with a television.

The sound is so crisp. Beyond that, this speaker can be put anywhere you want; the ceiling, the wall. Wherever you need it, you can install it. We debated for a long time on where to put this, but finally decided to install it right above the couch. I'm so glad we did. It really is like a movie theater experience now, only I think it sounds better! So many surround sound systems have me thinking a sound is coming from my right or left. With this speaker mounted above, it truly showers the entire sound "field" with whatever you are watching or listening to. I think that is the ultimate goal of surround sound. You shouldn't be distinguishing right from left. You should be hearing it from all over and with this speaker above the couch, I am. Very pleased.
