4.0 out of 5 stars Professional Speaking
An excellent source for professors and people interested in Professional Speaking. It was the textbook for my professional speaking class and I found it an excellent source of reference in addition to excellent examples that helped me prepare my speech.

2.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive
This is a hefty handbook that's no more designed to be a handbook than Machiavelli's "The Prince." Sure it's spiral bound, but the chapters are novellas rather than references.
The book might be large, but that doesn't mean there's novel ideas in it either. The authors are prone to repeating their points very often--if you get something on the first or second go,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Speech class text, January 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This text was used for Public Speaking in community college. I actually appreciated some of the lessons, as I have a professional interest in improving my speaking skills. The most helpful section is the impromptu speech lessons. This situation happens to almost anyone, whether at a wedding and you are asked to say something, at a meeting and your boss tells you to give a review of a project, or any other situation.

The set up is designed to make it easier to skip around, but it reads front to back, as well. Having no other experience with speaking skills, I found this book to be very helpful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive, July 9, 2010

This is a hefty handbook that's no more designed to be a handbook than Machiavelli's "The Prince." Sure it's spiral bound, but the chapters are novellas rather than references.
The book might be large, but that doesn't mean there's novel ideas in it either. The authors are prone to repeating their points very often--if you get something on the first or second go, this isn't the book for you. Unfortunately, there's little new information provided in this book that you don't already know if you've delivered a speech or given a presentation before.
It's not worth the price tag, and it's certainly not worth your time.
