About the Author

Bert Decker is the chairman and founder of Decker Communications, Inc. A major figure in the communications field, he has been featured on the Today Show commenting on the presidential debates of 1992 and 1996. He is the author of the best-selling book You've Got to Be Believed to Be Heard and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on ABC's 20/20. He lives with his wife in San Francisco, California.

Hershael W. York is Associate Professor of Christian Preaching at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has written many articles and features for several publications. He resides in Louisville, Kentucky.

Decker and York team up in this book to provide an informative and effective guide for Christian public speakers (meaning all Christians!). The straightforward "how-to" approach streamlines the process of preparing something to say and enables anyone to say something of value! I have read some of Decker's other work by itself. It is valuable information for communication, but, for me, it left questions unanswered when applying it to Christian topics. This book answers all of those questions and more. "Speaking with Bold Assurance" also reads easily and flows well. The thoughts are clear and concise. I plan to promote this book to all in my church who teach a class or aspire to do so. I eagerly await "Preaching with Bold Assurance." One drawback to the book is the lack of indeces, but the short chapters should help the careful reader to catalogue important points for remembering.

"Speaking With Bold Assurance" by Bert Decker and Hershael York focuses on how Christians may be bolder speakers, especially when sharing the Gospel with others. Indeed, many speakers get passionate about temporal things (financial security, career success, etc.), so why can't Christians get more excited about something much more important (eternity)?

Among the important points covered include:

1. God wants us to be bold and not timid.
2. Being passionate, confident, and believable is more important than education and eloquence.
3. 9 powerful tools in communication.
4. The Gospel is worth getting passionate and excited over!
5. Suggestions for facial expressions, voice, using humor, getting your audience's attention, etc.
6. Speakers who make a lifelong impact are those who grip the hearts of their audience.
7. People are attracted to our vulnerability and transparency.

A good read for anyone wishing to improve their communications skills (and we all need some improvement!).
