A Perfect Match,

This review is from: Speaking of Jobim (Audio CD)
Some of the loveliest piano playing I've ever heard, illuminating some of the loveliest songs of our time. Higgins, a master of American jazz and pop idioms, surprised me with his keen feeling for Jobim. Bassist Jay Leonhart and drummer Terry Clarke are perfectly in synch with Higgins.

Georgeous lesser-know Jobim compositions,
By Barbara Skinner (Evanston, IL United States) - See all my reviews

This CD showcases the best of Higgins' melodic and energetic abilities. Gorgeous is the word for it. CD includes 2-3 of Jobim's best-known works, but concentrates on his lesser-known compositions and they are a great find. Music is mood-producing and thrilling. Higgins at his best.

Tom would have loved to listen to his own songs.,

Very good interpretation on how Tom (or Antonio Carlos)Jobim would like to have his own music performed. The choice of songs on this c.d. is very good when you keep in mind that Mr.Jobim composed more than 800 songs. But not all of his songs became that famous(yet). In my opinion Jobim is the most important composer of the last century, and this c.d. is a must have for every fan of his wonderful music. You can either listen seriousely to this c.d. or play it as a background c.d. for cocktailhours and dinners. I highly recommend this c.d. for everyone who likes Jobim's music!

This is the finest trio music of Jobim compositions I have encountered. The music glides with the finesse of the Brazilian National soccer team. Not to be missed if you are a fan of Jobim.

Most music fans haven't heard of Eddie Higgins, who is now 73 years old. He plays the tastiest, easiest jazz piano you've ever heard. His interpretations of some of Jobim's lesser known songs are pure pleasure to the ear.

Marvelous,

Higgins once again demonstrates his incredibly versatile style with some of Jobim's lesser known -- but not lesser quality -- compositions. If you appreciate great jazz interpretations of Brazilian music, you are sure to enjoy this album.
